Over 225 teams begin their march to the Independent Classic crown.

Will Zellers of the '06 Minnesota Blades nets a goal in Friday's win over the Fox School of Hockey.

2003 Invite Division

Any hope of two interesting games was dashed quickly in the 2003 Invite Division.

Miracle Gold manhandled Centennial 8-1, displaying a physical style that operates cleanly in the offensive zone and creates opportunities for slick passing plays. Gentry put the Lake Superior Stars in running time for the last six minutes of the third period with a 9-3 win in the final game of the evening, showcasing its passing skills with several tic-tac-toe goals.

The marquee game of Saturday's schedule will be Miracle Gold and Gentry meeting at 7:50 p.m. after facing Lake Superior and Centennial in respectively in the morning.

2004 Invite Division

If Friday's slate of games was any indication, the 2004 Invite Division will come down to Miracle Gold and Blue Army.

Miracle Gold scored early and often en route to a 7-2 win over Mustangs Green, while Blue Army scored six goals after going down 2-0 to the '05 Minnesota Blades to cruise to a 6-2 victory.

As the leaders in the clubhouse so far, Miracle Gold and Blue Army will get a crack at one another on Saturday morning at 8 a.m., while the Blades and Mustangs Green will square off at 9:40 a.m.

2005 Invite Division

The two games played in the 2005 Invite Division offered two distinct outcomes, as Blue Army shut out Team Attack 6-0 in the first game and the Midwest Devils tied Velocity Black 3-3 with a late surge in the third period.

T.J. Gibson led Blue Army to its win with a pair of goals and an assist, with Colin Scanlan, Aidan Willis, Tanner Kronberg, and Jayden Veney all tallying single goals in the win, while Gavin Olson recorded the shutout.

Midwest Devils' goaltender Branson Appelman guided his team to a 3-3 tie with Velocity Black, making several key saves early in the game to keep the score close. Velocity Black took a 3-1 lead late into the third before the Devils scored twice to force the draw.

2006 Invite Division

Through a full day of competition for all teams, the 2006 Invite Division has been dominated by tight games, with the exception coming on Thursday night when the Twin Cities Red Knight Selects downed Hometown Hockey 6-1.

On Friday, Viverant skated to a 5-4 win over the Lake Superior Stars, with Bode Sampair slamming in a loose puck in the Stars' crease for the game-winner with just 1:45 to play in regulation. Sampair was one of five goal-scorers for Viverant.

The Minnesota Blades tied the Fox School of Hockey, based in Thunder Bay (OT) 2-2 on Friday afternoon, and Velocity Black earned a 4-1 win over Blue Army to close out the day. Goaltending stole the show in both games, with Fox School's Carter George and Velocity Black's Kambryn Hendrickson playing well between the pipes.

Players to Watch

Cruz Lucius, 2003 Gentry

Lucius executed the play-of-the-day on Friday night against the Lake Superior Stars, knocking a larger player off the puck cleanly, securing possession, and firing a pass for a one-time goal.

Max Nagel, 2004 Blue Army

Nagel showed a powerful stride on Friday night, routinely bulldozing his way into the offensive zone to create chances.

Branson Appelman, 2005 Midwest Devils

Appelman's quick glove and ability to locate tipped shots enabled the Devils to salvage a 3-3 tie against Velocity Black.

Carter George, 2006 Fox School of Hockey

George took everything thrown his way and gave most of it back, allowing just two goals against a talented Minnesota Blades' squad in Friday's 2-2 tie.
