2018 Easton Cup concludes with championship games played all over the metro area.

Mario Savino (21) scores the first goal of the game during Blue Army AAA's 3-0 win over the Twin City Selects.

The floodgates didn't open, but they did part just enough.

A rocket-wrist shot by Blue Army AAA defenseman Mario Savino popped the Twin City Selects' water bottle off the top of the net, effectively popping the Blue Army cork off a bottle of victory, as Blue Army blanked the Selects 3-0 on Sunday in Blaine.

Savino's goal came late in the first period and would be the only tally until T.J. Gibson stretched the lead to 2-0 with a shot from close range. Aiden Willis iced the win for Blue Army with an empty-net goal with just under three minutes to play in regulation.

Taking home Most Valuable Player honors was Blue Army goaltender Carson Musser, who stood on his head for three periods while turning away at least 25 shots from the Selects, which had outscored their opponents 14-6 during pool play.

2006 Invite: '07 MN Blades 5, CO Kodiaks 3

Henri Ament scores the go ahead go for the Blades Sunday at the Easton Cup in Edina

The 2007 Minnesota Blades beat the 2006 Colorado Kodiaks 5-3 Sunday at Braemar Arena in Edina. After trailing the Bears 2-1 after the first period, the Blades came out skating like their hair was on fire, scoring three goals in the second period. The Blades were lead by Orono's Henri Ament who had two goals and two assists. Ament used his strong balance and gritty play to lead his team to the win.

The Kodiaks were lead by power forward Grant Young who had a goal and an assist. The undersized Blades used their skill and puck possession to frustrate and wear down the Bears.

2007 Invite: Viverant 8, Tommy Chicago 1

In a game that came to a merciful end, Team Viverant thumped Tommy Chicago Green 8-1 in the finals of the 2007 Invite Division, giving Viverant a perfect 5-0 record for the tournament.

Minor finished with a hat-trick for Viverant, which scored three times in ten minutes of the first period to set the tone for the rest of the game with a 3-0 lead. Hudson Adams scored the lone goal of the game for Tommy Chicago, temporarily stopping the bleeding while making the score 4-1 in the second period.

With a goal and an assist, Luke Myers of Team Viverant was named Most Valuable Player.

2008 Invite: Yuro Stars 6, MPH 5

Nate Chorlton scored with 2:58 left to tie the game for MPH

The best game of the day happened in Richfield Sunday. The Yuro Stars broke the heart of MPH in a 6-5 buzzer beater thriller. In a back and forth game that had three lead changes, a penalty-shot and a crazy and somewhat controversial finish.

MPH built a 2-1 lead in the second period lead on the back of stand out forwards Nate Chorlton and Lincoln Ayers-Assad. Yuro took command of the game after that scoring four of the next five to build a 5-3 into the middle of the third period. Cole Baumgarner had three goals to pace the Stars attack.

Late in the third, the game took on a full moon effect. Down 5-4, Ayers-Assad was dragged down from behind and given a penalty shot. A shot that appeared to go in the net but was disallowed because it was scored on a second attempt. A minute and change later Nate Chorlton tied the game for MPH on a pretty snipe with 2:55 left in the game.

Down the stretch, both teams had open net  chances that they could not convert. With 20 seconds remaining Ayers-Assad collided with a Yuro player behind the net. Both players appeared to be injured. While they both laid on the ice, the game went on without a whistle for the injured players.

Meanwhile up ice, Jack Peterson fired a desperation wrist shot toward the MPH net. The shot wobbled like a knuckleball and fooled a screened MPH goalie Brett Middleton and found the net a split second before the buzzer for the win. A huge turnabout from a week ago, the Yuros lost in exact the same fashion in the AAA State semifinals with a second remaining.
