A collection of highlights, top players, and best games from the first weekend of the BEL Minor season.

Nolan Newnow (4) scored the game-winner on this shot for Team North Dakota against the Bruins over the weekend.

Team Roundups

Bruins

Although the Bruins started the BEL season with four consecutive losses, all is not lost (pun intended). Five players totaled at least three points, an average of .75 points-per-game, and spread out over the course of an entire schedule those numbers bode well for the boys in gold. Leading the way with five points was defenseman Tommy Boisjolie, followed by forward Tate Pritchard with two goals and four points. A key area for improvement for the Bruins would be the second half, where they were outscored by a 12-4 margin by opponents over the weekend.

Kings

A heartbreaking 4-3 loss to the North Stars was the lone blemish on the Kings' weekend, as a royally balanced lineup went 3-1 while winning a pair of games by a single goal. Austin Burnevik paced the team over the four games with four goals and seven points, with Brayden Houge adding a goal and five points to the mix. Like the Bruins, the Kings have ample scoring options, as four players following Burnevik and Houge have totaled at least four points thus far.

North Dakota

Forward Dawson McCann may be the league's second-leading scorer with five goals and nine points, buy goaltender Andrew Peterson stole every watt of the limelight this weekend. Peterson posted a record of 3-0 while turning away all 42 shots he faced, giving him a literally perfect goals-against average and save percentage. Nolan Nenow scored the game-winner in Team North Dakota's 1-0 win over the Bruins and totaled five points on the weekend. If Team North Dakota expects to continue its winning ways, it will likely focus on continued strength in the first half, where the team has outscored its opponents 11-1 through four games.

Tanner Ludtke has totaled three points in four games for the Bruins.

North Stars

After a 5-2 opening loss to Team North Dakota, the North Stars bounced back with three straight wins to close out the weekend, led by Abe Carlson's three goals and six points. Jayson Shaugabay and Grant Winkler follow Carlson's lead in scoring with four points each, helping guide a group that showed grit in the final two games at St. Thomas, both one-goal victories. Goaltender Zander Ziemski currently ranks fourth in the league with a .915 save percentage.

Penguins

The Penguins managed to stop the bleeding of three straight losses to open the season with a 4-2 win over the Bruins in their final game on Sunday. Slow starts were an issue for the Penguins over the weekend, as opponents outscored them 15-4 in the first half. Carter Krenke and Teddy Manlove lead the team with three points each, and goaltender Robert Clarkowski has stopped 63 of 68 shots for a sparkling save percentage of .926.

Sharks

The Sharks went 2-2 on the weekend, alternating between wins and losses through the first four games. Both losses were by identical 3-2 scores against the Kings and North Stars, showing that the Sharks were just a fraction away from a 4-0 record. The offense features the league's leading-scorer in Wyatt Olson with eight goals and 11 points and one of the statistically-leading goaltenders in Louden McCoy. McCoy currently has a goals-against average of 2.00 and a save percentage of .945. Both marks rank second in the league.

Wyatt Olson (14) scores one of his league-leading eight goals in Saturday's win over the Penguins.

Top Games

Saturday

It took 48 minutes and 59 seconds, but Team North Dakota scored the lone goal of its 1-0 win over the Bruins after a mad scramble in front of the Bruins' net with just 1:01 remaining in regulation. As mentioned in an above photo, the game-winner was scored by Nolan Nenow of Team North Dakota.

Sunday

Watching a two-goal lead disappear in the second half would have understandably deflated a team's confidence-balloon, but most team's don't have Joe Gramer on the blue line. The Moorhead native scored the eventual game-winner on the power play with 8:28 to play in the game, cementing a 3-1 weekend for the North Stars.

Sunday

Winning in a shootout up the drama-ante automatically, but forcing that shootout with two goals in the final 3:31 of regulation puts you at the high-rollers table where the buy-in makes you rethink the $11 you just spent at the concession stand. Austin Burnevik and Caden Sampair scored for the Kings to send the game into its shootout before Sawyer Seidl and Ashton Dahms clinched the win.
