Girls, Girls, Girls....

Hanna Olson, Grand Rapids - had a big day Saturday

We saw some epic games again on the Girls front and both Majors and Minors. The Grand Rapids' Minors beat Southwest today in a fun back and forth game. Stella Hankinson scored late to lift the Thunderhawks. John Marshall Majors won their second shootout in two days. John Marshall Minors got their shootout on Saturday, beating Edina, Bailey Gray scored their only goal for the win.

An insane day, with some insane individual performances. Here are a just a few.

Tony's Three Stars

1. Brynn O'Neill (Grand Rapids/Major) - Fired in two goals three minutes apart to lead the Thunderhawks into a do or die game Sunday vs. Southwest.

2. Alexa Niccum (Edina/Minor) - the Orono-Westonka speedster had a magical game for the Hornets scoring three and electrifying even the novice eye with her skill.

3. Audrey Garton (Duluth East/Major) - Minneapolis forward helped East to a 6-2 win over Grand Rapids...her first two goals of the weekend.

Sunday Big Games

Major - John Marshall vs. Duluth East...winner is in Championship, loser goes home.

Minor - John Marshall vs. Southwest...winner is in, loser gets the rest of the day off.

For the Boys

Max Plante, poised to get his name on PWC trophy for the second year in a row

Saturday is moving day in any weekend event. Some teams move into contention, some move out. The Boys PWC had a ton of movement at both levels. No team tested their cardiac rhythm more than Grand Rapids' Major. They lost to Southwest giving up two goals in the final minute and then beat John Marshall in the final minute to gain the finals, both in the rink two pressure cooker at Bloomington Ice Garden.

The Minors have a juggernaut sitting atop the standings. Southwest they hung 12 goals on their opponents Saturday en route to a spot in the title game Sunday. John Marshall and Edina face off Sunday morning for the second spot against the Indians.

Tony's Three Stars

1. Ashton Schultz (Southwest Minor) - helped the Indians with an eight point day...the fluid skater makes great plays with and without the puck.

2. Max Plante (Southwest Major) - pulled a Kirby Puckett, assisted on game tying goal and scored winning goal twice in 24 seconds.

3. Charlie Brandt (Grand Rapids Major) - the Mahtomedi net minder was remarkable, stopping all comers in both games Saturday. One fan said of his skill, "this isn't fair what he's doing..."
