Team North and Team Southwest Tied For First

Through 12 games of the Upper Midwest High School Elite Legaue season, Team North (8-2-2) and Team Southwest stand alone tied for first, powered by significant talent.

Team North's Blake Biondi leads the league with 16 goals and has totaled 20 points so far, followed by Duluth East standout and North Dakota commit Ryder Donovan with four goals and 15 points. Goaltender Carter Clafton of Grand Rapids has posted a record of 5-1, with a goals-against average of 2.44 and a save percentage of .908. Clafton's GAA currently ranks second in the league, while his five wins is tied with Team Southwest's Bailey Huber for the league lead.

The league-leader in points is Team Southwest (8-3-2) forward Rhett Pitlick with eight goals and 22 points, with Southwest's offense also propelled by Edina forwards Liam Malmquist (7-13-20), Mason Nevers (8-9-17). St. Thomas Academy's Ryan O'Neill also ranks among the team's leading scorers with four goals and 15 points.  Pitlick's 14 assists are tied for the league-lead with Shattuck-St. Mary's Brendan Brisson.

Blake Biondi leads the Elite League with 16 goals through 12 games.

Team Southeast (7-4-1) has posted a goal-differential of +9 midway through the Elite League season, thanks in large part to the performance of Cretin-Derham Hall forward Matt Gleason. Gleason leads team in scoring with 11 goals and 17 points, including four goals on the power play. Colorado College commit Rob Christy (6-9-15) and Minnesota commit John Mittelstadt (4-6-10) follow Gleason in the Team Southeast scoring order.

Nebraska-Omaha commit and Elk River forward Zach Michaelis leads Team Northwest in scoring with seven goals and 16 points, followed by Class 2A, Section 5 rival Tyler Kostelecky of Maple Grove. Kostelecky, who recently committed to Arizona State, has recorded five goals and 14 points during the Elite League season. Both Adam Flammang and Nick Dainty are tied for third for Team Northwest (4-6-3) with 10 total points each.

Team Great Plains is one of just three teams to have defeated Team Southwest this fall, scoring five consecutive goals to erase a 4-0 deficit and to come from behind in one of the most exciting matchups of September. Cole Hanson tied the game with 6:18 remaining in regulation, while Cade Stibbe scored the game-winner on the power play with 2:56 left in the game. St. Cloud Cathedral's Nate Warner leads the team in scoring with four goals and 11 points. Hanson, who plays for Grand Forks Central , has totaled six goals and nine points, while Buffalo's Jake Braccini has three goals and nine points.

Zachary Welsch and Frank Dovorany are tied for the scoring lead for Team Wisconsin (2-7-3) with nine points each, with Welsch scoring six times and Dovorany tallying three goals. Dovorany was selected by the USHL's Omaha Lancers during this past May's draft. Team Wisconsin is one of just two teams to defeat Shattuck-St. Mary's edging the Sabres 5-3 on Sept. 29.

Rounding out the teams that have played in 10 or more games this fall is Team Northeast with a record of 3-10. Holy Family Catholic's Garrett Pinoniemi leads the team with four goals and 13 points, followed by Blaine's Will Hillman with five goals and nine points. Despite the poor record, Team Northeast is second in the Elite League in penalty-killing percentage at 88%. Team CCM ranks just ahead of Team Northeast in that category but has played in five fewer games.
