2017 Big Pumpkin champion Hermantown.
The Big Pumpkin will travel to the northwest corner of the state to Moorhead for the sixth year at the end of the month. As it does each fall, the competition will represent some of the best PeeWee teams in the state. In addition to the top ten AA PeeWee teams, the Pumpkin will attract some wily PeeWee A teams with a lot to prove like the two Fargo Freeze teams (Black and Blue), the Orono Spartans and the defending PeeWee A state champion Warroad.
In addition to being an early barometer for signs of talent, the Big Pumpkin is also permeated by a freshness that befits a Minnesota autumn.
Uniforms sparkle, unmarked by pucks and still in one piece. Sticks have new tape and mouthguards are still absorbing a set of teeth.
Gone are the odd assortment of AAA and spring-season jerseys with mismatched socks, replaced with association colors and newly printed names on the back of the sweater.
Here is a look at this year's Friday pairings, with game times, plus a look at the past champions and most valuable players.
For three days in Moorhead, there will be big goals. There will be clutch goaltending. There will be special moments.
The journey to Stillwater starts now.
