White, Orange, and Black Bracket titles delivered as 2018 Big Pumpkin concludes in Moorhead.

Chaska/Chanhassen lifts the Big Pumpkin trophy after edging Hermantown 3-2 in overtime.

Stormhawks Dethrone Hermantown In OT

In a move that evoked memories of Pavel Bure's spin-o-rama, Javon Moore delivered a backdoor feed to Adam Kleber and rewrote the Big Pumpkin record books.

On a power-play early in overtime, Moore carried the puck into the corner of the Hermantown zone, drawing a defender with him. Moore then spun back toward the net, eluding his defender, and zipped a perfect pass to Kleber to lift Chaska/Chanhassen to a rollicking 3-2 win over the defending Big Pumpkin champion Hawks.

The Big Pumpkin title is the first for the Chaska/Chanhassen program.

The goal capped a comeback by the Stormhawks, as Hermantown rode a wave of early momentum to a 2-0 lead, as Nolan Barker and Max Plante tallied first-period goals. Plante's goal came on a shorthanded chance, where the 2017 Big Pumpkin MVP beat Chaska/Chanhassen goaltender Caleb Heil top-shelf. Stormhawks forward Tanner Bruenberger pared the Hermantown lead to 2-1 with a goal in the final minute of the first period.

Javon Moore tied the game in the second, banging in a loose puck from close range and setting the stage for his extra-session heroics. For his efforts, Moore was selected as the 2018 Big Pumpkin Tournament Most Valuable Player.

Alstead, Wayzata Breeze Past Centennial

Wayzata dominated Centennial in all three phases of the Orange Bracket final, taking advantage of the extended amount of time spent in the penalty box by the Cougars en route to a 6-1 win.

In a span of just over nine minutes in a clunky first period, the Trojans erupted for three goals, with Jake Mattson, Brittan Alstead, and Rhys Wallin all marking the scoresheet. The Trojans would rely on their first-period blueprint (traffic in front of the Centennial net, odd-man rushes) for the next two frames.

Austin Petersen put Centennial on the board with a slick backhand shot to open the second, and the Cougars would have a slight edge in momentum for the next five minutes. Brittan Alstead's second goal interrupted the Centennial comeback attempt, and Jake Mattson's second brought it to a screeching halt.

Ben Kearin would add the sixth Wayzata goal in the third period to force running time in the win.

Orono Pulls Away From Blaine 5-3

Buoyed by a two-goal performance by Ben Norris, Orono downed Blaine 5-3 to open Championship Sunday in Moorhead.

Norris potted his first goal early in the first period, a score followed by Brooks Fingers netting a goal and staking the Spartans a 2-0 lead. The first of Kaiden Gordon's two goals for Blaine halved the Orono lead to 2-1 going into the second period.

Gordon scored again in the opening two minutes of the second to tie the game at 2-2 before Norris's second tally put Orono back up 3-2 off a feed from Henri Ament. Refusing to go away, Blaine tied the game yet again near the end of the second, with Evan Larson launching a shot that popped into the air off a skate and settled behind Orono goaltender Peyton Anderson.

Tre Peck notched a shorthanded goal to put the Spartans ahead in the third period, and the victory was secured by a goal from Ben Setnicker just 13 seconds later.
