Prior Lake Bumps Off Osseo-Maple Grove

Welcome to the Lake Show.

Prior Lake clawed its way to the Battle for the Blue Ox championship on Sunday night, bouncing back after giving up a late goal to dethrone defending champion Osseo-Maple Grove in a shootout.

The teams traded goals throughout the game, with Sam Rice putting Prior Lake up 1-0 in the first period on assists from Will Schumacher and Jackson Anderson. Chayton Fischer and Finn Brink scored in the second period for the Leafbirds, with a goal by Lakers' Jackson Anderson.

High drama followed in the third period, as Riley Dueber put the Lakers ahead 3-2 with 7:02 to play in regulation. With 3:12 left on the clock, Osseo-Maple Grove's Parker Wente flung a shot from the point that eluded Trevor Boschee to send the game into overtime.

The extra session passed without a significant scoring chance for either side, setting the stage for Dalton Spratt and Alex Bump to score in the shootout for the Lakers, while Boschee expertly turned away the Leafbird attempts. For his spectacular play throughout the weekend, Boschee was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player.

Alex Bump scores for Prior Lake to help clinch Sunday's shootout win.

Chaska-Chanhassen Hushes Huskies For Third

A sluggish start to the trophy games began in Maple Grove around noon, as Chaska-Chanhassen slogged to s 3-1 win over Andover for the third-place hardware.

The Stormhawks, which lost to Osseo-Maple Grove 5-3 in Saturday night's semifinal, scored the first three goals of the game, with the first tally coming from Jack Seaverson on the laser beam of a shot from the slot. Jimmy Snuggerud scored on a shorthanded breakaway try early in the second period, and the lead was padded to 3-0 on a goal by Nathan Hinze near the end of the second frame.

Andover's lone goal came from Cooper Conway, as the winger batted a rolling puck past Chaska-Chanhassen's Carter Wishart. The Huskies could not get out of their zone long enough to pull the goaltender, and eventually, time ran out on the team that had pulled off wins over Stillwater and Osseo-Maple Grove "A" to start the tournament.

Chaska-Chanhassen took third place with a win over Andover in Maple Grove.

Eden Praire Slips Past Centennial In Overtime

Despite surrendering two goals in the third period and ceding all momentum to Centennial, Eden Prairie escaped the northern suburbs with a consolation championship after a 3-2 win in overtime.

The Eagles took a 2-0 lead into the later stages of the game on goals by Trent Stansberry and Jacob Luloff but retracted into a defensive shell that hampered any insurance goals during the third period.

Aided by a parade of Eagles to the penalty box, Centennial scored a power play goal, as Owen Van Tassel sent a wrist shot through traffic past Alec Aldrich to halve the Eden Prairie lead to 2-1. Matt Everson tied the game for the Cougars with a tipped goal at the 14:53 mark of the third period.

Reagan Shepard scored the game-winner on the wraparound try late in overtime, as the speedy wing snuck around the Centennial goal, cut across the goal mouth, and slipped the puck past Cougar goalie Aidan Gould.

Eden Prairie defeated Centennial 3-2 in overtime on Sunday to earn the consolation title.
