Over the past weekend, 15 Bantam AA teams and one Bantam A team vied for the Battle for the Blue Ox trophy in Maple Grove, duking it out in bracket play over the course of three days.
On Sunday evening, Prior Lake was crowned champion, as Dalton Spratt and Alex Bump scored during the game-deciding shootout while goaltender Trevor Boschee shut down the Osseo-Maple Grove shooters for a 4-3 win. For his outstanding play, Boschee was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player.
Statistically, Chaska-Chanhassen's Jack Seaverson led the tournament in scoring with nine total points, followed by Stormhawk teammates Max Burkholder, Zach Seltun, and St. Paul forward Drew Fisher with eight points each. Fisher and Seltun tied for the tournament lead in goals with five.
With another tournament in the books, the Youth Hockey Hub is proud to present the 2018 Battle for the Blue Ox All-Tournament team, selected through a process with input from YHH staffers, tournament officials, and outside observations.
Carter Winkelman and the Osseo-Maple Grove "A" team upset Grand Forks in the first round on its way to a 2-2 record against Bantam AA competition.
