Eden Prairie got out to a quick 2-0 lead over upstart Holy Family Wednesday and hung to to beat the Fire 3-1 in a game that went right down to the final moments. The Eagles used their high powered attack to set the tone in the first period scoring two goals a minute apart. One by YHH player of the year finalist Jack Jensen and another by super sophomore Drew Holt. Moments later senior Sawyer Schugel capped off what amounted to the only scoring of the game when he banged home a rebound goal on the power play for the Fire.
The balance of the game was scoreless. Eden Prairie owned zoned time and the shots on goal advantage, but by no means did they outplay or out chance the Fire. Holy Family counter-punched and produced several great chances to tie the game in the final two periods. No chance was greater than in the final seconds with Bailey Huber pulled - the Fire willed the puck past Eden Prairie goalie Axel Rosenlund, but not past senior Jack Jensen who flipped the puck away onto Carter Batchelder's stick who sent the puck 200 feet into the empty net to the delight of his team and throngs of Eagle fans parked just feet away.
Eden Prairie will make their sixth trip to state this decade and will in search of their first title since 2011.

Landon Strong put the team on his back Wednesday in the second period
New Ulm is headed back to the state tournament for the first time since 2015 with a 6-4 win over Hutchinson Wednesday. After spotting the Tigers a 3-0 lead, senior Landon Strong had a natural hat trick scoring three goals in a nine minute string to even the score at three. With the game tied 4-4 heading into the third period, New Ulm got two late third period goals 22 seconds apart. The first by freshman Braxten Hoffman and then the back breaking insurance goal by the red hot Kyle Tauer to win it. The Eagles will head to the state tournament for the sixth time next week.

Edina defeated Benilde-St. Margaret's Wednesday 5-1 and is headed back to the state tournament for the 39th time next week. Without a deeper dive into the box score, one would think the game was a blowout win for the Hornets. With 11:13 left in the third period, Benilde was trailing 2-1 and was headed to the power-play for a shot to tie the game. After the Hornets killed the Red Knights man-advantage Jett Jungels put a lance through the heart of their pesky opponents with 6:42 left in the game.
After that it was only a matter of time before the levy would break on sophomore goalie Carson Limesand - Grant Morton and Kevin Delaney added late goals to send the Hornets to the X as they seek their school's 13th state title.

Nolan Westra scored the first goal of the game for Moorhead in Wednesday night's win.
After taking a one-year hiatus from the Class 2A State Tournament, Moorhead will make its 16th trip to the Twin Cities in search of its first state championship.
The No. 1 seed Spuds (21-6-1) scored the first three goals of the game and then held off a late Brainerd charge to earn the Section 8-2A title on Wednesday night at the Sanford Center in Bemidji.
Nolan Westra tallied the first goal of the game for the No. 1 seed Spuds at the 9:22 mark of the second period, a 1-0 advantage quickly built upon with two goals from Thomas Horan within the next two-and-a-half minutes. Brainerd's Mason Kruse put the Warriors (18-10) on the board with his 18th goal of the season late in the second frame.
Just over six minutes into the third period, Brady Anderson pulled the Warriors within one goal, but after a mad-dash in the game's waning minutes, the comeback attempt fell short.
Moorhead's Hudson Hodges made 25 saves on 27 shots in the win, while his Brainerd counterpart Luke Saiko stopped 30 of 33 shots.
