10+ teams that will make their mark next year

Squirt teams to watch for in 2014-15

Gavyn Thoreson starred for Team MN last Summer, this Winter he will lead Andover

Listed alphabetically are ten teams we will consider when making our first stet of rankings this Fall. Other teams will rise onto our radar, others will fall off.  Based on what we've seen, here are ten good ones.

  • Andover - a very successful and young team last year, the Huskies return Gavyn Thoreson to a lineup that will likely be the best team in District 10.
  • Chaska Chanhassen - another team that was successful last season despite being very young. Jimmy Snuggerud will be a player to watch for the StormHawks.
  • Edina White - Edina has had great success splitting their Squirt A teams into two even squads the last two years. Both teams, both years have finished in the top 10 of YHH Staff and NOW Rankings. No reason to change this projection until proven wrong.
  • Edina Green - see above
  • Lakeville South - one of the first entries into the YHH Squirtacular this Winter suggests that the Cougars will a team to reckon with in District 8.
  • Mahtomedi - the Zephyrs return a solid core of players from their team last year. A good couple classes of kids will make them tough to beat in D2.
  • Moorhead - A solid team this year was bolstered by two kids that are highly talented. Gavin Lindberg was a superstar last year for Fergus Falls...he will skate for the Spuds, as will the son of former Spud and NHL alum Jason Blake. Jackson Blake will be one of the most exciting Squirts in Minnesota to see.
  • North St. Paul (Revolution) - another early entry into the YHH Squritacular, the Revolution will have a good group of skaters including Leo Gruba and JJ Wiebusch.
  • Osseo Maple Grove - the Crimson return zero starters from their undefeated team a year ago. Normally a tough task to replace 17 kids. But one must consider that all three Squirt B teams a year ago were in the YHH Staff and NOW Rankings all year. The cupboard is not empty.
  • Woodbury - a strong team last year, that will be even stronger this year. Many on the east side say that the Preds will be the best team in the state by the end of the season.
