Northern Lakes gets a Hatty from Owen Miller as they hand Morris Benson second loss of the year

District 15's top two Peewee B teams met at Spalj Arena in Crosby Sunday afternoon.  The visiting Morris Benson Storm showed up looking to avenge their only loss of the season, a 11-0 drubbing put on them by Northern Lakes a weeks prior.  While the No. 6 Lightning were looking to move one step closer to locking up the top seed for the district tournament and complete a four game sweep for the weekend.

With the unseasonably warm weather outside, the temperature inside Spalj Arena was also high as a lot of fans came to see who would be crowned King of District 15 after this weekend.  Northern Lakes' Owen Miller did his part to help Northern Lakes lay claim to the crown by recording a hatty as the Lightning prevailed 5-4 in overtime over the Storm.

Northern Lakes scores Sunday

The Lightning established its forecheck early and created several early scoring chances.  The Storm weathered the early Lightning pressure and lit the lamp first when Brady Goff beat Lightning goalie Adler Hoagland with a shot to get the scoring started.  Owen Miller had several early scoring chances turned aside, but finally converted on a breakaway beating the Storm goalie with a nifty move to even the score at one.  Ryan Tolifson would score later in the period to put the visiting Storm back up 2-1.  Owen Miller would net his second goal of the game to close the scoring and send the teams to the locker rooms tied at two after one.

The second period brought more end-to-end action from both teams as the temperature continued to rise inside the arena.  Owen Miller produced the loan goal of the period to earn the hatty and put the Lightning up 3-2 after two periods.

Morris gets a late goal from Tim Blume to tie it

Henry Neva would keep things rolling for the Lightning early in the third with a goal that would stretch the Lightning lead to 4-2.

The Storm celebrate after they tie it Sunday

The Storm continued to battle, but could not solve Hoagland until Brett Hansen scored on the power play to get visitors within one with just over five left in the game.  With just over a minute to play and still trailing, the Storm bench was looking for an opportunity to pull its goalie in favor of the extra attacker.  The Lightning did a great job of bottling the Storm up and looked to skate away with a 4-3 win.  However with just over thirty seconds to go, Tim Blume was able to get behind the Lightning defense and beat Hoagland with a wrist shot to tie the game at 4-4.  The Blume goal and Storm celebration that ensued pushed the temperature to a boiling point.

After a short break both teams were right back at it and after 4 minutes of an exciting overtime it looked like this one would end in a draw and we would have to wait for the district tournament to crown a King.  In the waning minutes of overtime the Lightning once again established its forecheck and Wyatt Huber took advantage of a turnover and buried a wrist shot into the net to win it for the Lightning and set of a celebration of their own with  35 seconds left in the OT.  If these two teams should meet in a couple of weeks, dress appropriately it will likely be warm.
