Maple Grove skated to a 3-1 win over Grand Rapids on Saturday, aided by this goal from Matt Jaglo.
With Saturday's slate of games completed, the five pool winners will now move on to semifinals and finals to be played on Sunday.
Duluth East took Pool 1 with a pair of convincing wins on Saturday, shutting out Lakeville South 4-0 and thumping Benilde-St. Margaret's 10-1.
Emerging from Pool 2 is Wayzata, the only team to advance as a pool champion that participated in last year's Class 2A state tournament. The Trojans earned their Sunday birth with a 3-2 win over highly touted Holy Family Catholic and a resounding 8-1 victory over Lakeville North.
Eastview took Pool 3 with wins over 2016 State Tournament participant Maple Grove and Chanhassen by scores of 2-1 and 7-4 respectively. Winning Pool 4 was Prior Lake, who downed Elk River 4-1 and defeated Buffalo 6-0.
Pool 5 sends Orono to Sunday's games, as the Spartans scored a 4-2 win over Delano and a 4-3 win over Wayzata's second team.
Chris Konin will bring speed and tenacity to the Eden Prairie lineup this season.
NO TROJAN HORSE FOR WAYZATA
Big, bad and bruising, Wayzata appears primed to make a run at a third consecutive Class 2A state tournament trip, and will not be a surprise entrant if they advance to the game's grandest stage in March.
The Trojans edged Holy Family Catholic on Saturday by a score of 3-2, dousing the fire with their characteristic tough defense and staunch goaltending. With a 8-1 win over Lakeville North in their second game of the day, the Trojans have already shown, albeit in July, that they are capable of both slowing opponents and running them over.
THE EAGLES ARE ALRIGHT
No Casey? No problem.
While Eden Prairie did not advance out of Pool 4, the Eagles showed they can still flap their wings without departed NHL first-rounder Casey Mittelstadt in the lineup.
A 6-1 win over Buffalo and a 3-0 victory over Elk River showcased another Eden Prairie squad armed with speed and a dedication to moving without the puck.
ACHY BLAKE-Y HEART
With former linemates Micah Miller and Gavin Hain exiting due to graduation and the National Team Development Program, Grand Rapids forward Blake McLaughlin will shoulder a little more of the load this coming season, evidenced by his play at Braemar on Saturday.
McLaughlin is a fearless wizard with the puck, attempting saucer passes and sidestep jukes with abandon, but will need to learn to play without two of the three pieces from the line that drove the Thunderhawk bus to the 2016 state title. If any player is capable of making that adjustment, it's McLaughlin.
A LONG, WINDING RHODE
A new face will don with black and red of Eden Prairie this season, as Chris Konin joins the team having last played for Kimball Union Academy in Meriden, New Hampshire.
YHH got an eye-full of Konin, a Rhode Island native on Saturday, and he did not disappoint.
Konin's speed is obvious, and he handles the puck will with good size. In addition to his skills, Konin has no qualms about taking on an opponent of any size, and does not take shifts off.
Nate Bordson, Eastview
Even without former linemates Gavin Hain and Micah Miller, Blake McLaughlin stood out for Grand Rapids.
