NCAA regulations allow phone contact between Division I men's programs and HS sophomores....here is who we think gets the call

15 Sophomores that will get a call

Per newly adopted NCAA rules for recruiting, on January 1 - Sophomore boys hockey players can begin the recruiting process with NCAA schools. They cannot be offered a scholarship or commit to a school until August of 2021. The most adept schools will call as soon as they can to start building a relationship for the almighty verbal commitment later this summer.

Here is a list of 15 Minnesota players who we think or know will be getting a call this week. Happy new year and good luck to all players in this journey.  This is only one of many milestones in your career. 


Jimmy Clark, Edina HS

Player: Finn Brink
Position: Forward
'20-'21 Team: Maple Grove HS
Birth Year: 2005
Notes: Speedy forward who torments defenders with tenacity. Bantam POTY finalist 2020.

Player: Austin Burnevik
Position: Forward
'20-'21 Team: Totino Grace HS
Birth Year: 2005
Notes: Talented big man will attract a lot of attention. Had 28 PTS in his FROSH year at Grace.

Player: Jimmy Clark
Position: Forward
'20-'21 Team: Edina HS
Birth Year: 2004
Notes:  Most dynamic freshman in Minnesota last year.  Had 19 points in 19 games for Hornets. 

Player: Landen Gunderson
Position: Forward
'20-'21 Team: Maple Grove HS
Birth Year: 2004
Notes:  Ultra talented skater who can both score and make plays. Had 21 points in 31 games for the Crimson as a freshman.

Player: Simon Houge
Position:  Defense
'20-'21 Team: Cretin-Derham Hall
Notes: High-tempo defenseman who was a top-four defender for the Raiders last year.


Oliver Moore, Totino Grace HS

Player: Ty Hanson
Position: Defense
'20-'21 Team: Hermantown HS
Notes:  Athletic defenseman who can really push the tempo of the game. Bantam POTY finalist in 2020. Dad, Greg, played at UMD.

Player: Oliver Moore
Position: Forward
'20-'21 Team: Totino Grace HS
Notes: Superior talent who had 36 points in his freshman campaign. Pegged by many to be an NTDP choice next spring.

Player: Carsen Musser
Position: Goalie
'20-'21 Team: Victory Honda U15
Notes: Athletic goalie from Fairmont, MN who has impressed at every level.

Player: Zam Plante
Position: Forward
'20-'21 Team: Hermantown HS
Notes: 2020 Bantam POTY.  Super skilled player with high hockey IQ. Dad Derek is assistant coach at UMD.

Player: Gracyn Sawchyn
Position: Forward
'20-'21 Team: Shattuck-St. Mary's 16U
Notes:  First overall pick in WHL's U.S. Draft in 2020. Playmaker with great vision, has 37 points in 26 games so far this year for Sabres.


Charlie Stramel, NTDP 17U team

Player: Jayson Shaugabay
Position: Forward
'20-'21 Team: Warroad HS
Notes: Ultra athletic performer who has unlimited upside. Had 64 points for the Warriors in his freshman year.

Player: Jimmy Snuggerud 
Position: Forward
'20-'21 Team: National Team Development Program 17U
Notes: Snuggerud has all the tools to be a top flight college player. Grampa (Jim Westby) and Dad (Dave) both played at Minnesota.

Player: Charlie Stramel 
Position: Forward
'20-'21 Team: National Team Development Program 17U
Notes: Rare combination of size and skill. Will be one of the top-five most pursued players in the country.

Player: Wyatt Olson
Position: Forward
'20-'21 Team: Maple Grove HS
Notes: Olson has all the tools for the next level. Great hands and vision for a power forward.

Player: William Whitelaw
Position:  Forward
'20-'21 Team: Shattuck-St. Mary's Prep
Notes: Has talent times 10. Had 85 points in 58 games for SSM 14U last year. One of only a few players to make SSM Prep as a SOPH.
