Top seeds all advance in Section 7AA, Section 4AA is set after play-in game. Close scores the norm in Class A, and Waconia wins its first Section game in program history.

Class AA

Isa Goettl led Andover to a 16-0 win over Northern Tier in the first round of the Section 7AA playoffs with a hat trick and two assists.

Section 7AA

(1) Andover 16, (8) Northern Tier 0

A seven-goal first period powered Andover to a 16-0 win over Northern Tier, the sacrificial lamb born out of the Section's play-in game.

Isa Goettl led the way with a hat trick and five total points for the Huskies, while (deep breath) Madison Brown, Hanna Olson, Hannah Christenson, and Ella Boerger all scored twice, with single goals coming from Nora Sauer, Mackenzie Jones, and Ashley Grabau.

For Northern Tier, goaltender Megahan Gibb made 46 saves on 62 shots.

(4) Blaine 7, (5) Forest Lake 2

Blaine scored four times in the second period to pull away from Forest Lake for a quarterfinal win on Thursday night, the Bengals' first appearance in Section 7AA after moving over from Section 5AA.
Brooke Nowicki and Macy Janssen scored two goals for the Bengals, with Shelby Sandberg, Camryn Singh, and Gracyn Knowles chipped in one goal apiece. Hailey Hansen stood tall for the Bengals between the pipes with 29 saves on 31 shots.

Hailey Stanius and Ellie Hanowski recorded the goals for Forest Lake in the loss.

The game marked the first time since Dec. 17, 2019, that Blaine had scored seven goals in a single game.

(3) Elk River/Zimmerman 2, (6) Anoka 1 (2OT)

It took a double-overtime goal by Abby Hansberger to lift the third-seeded Elks to the semifinals, as Anoka goaltender Gretchen Paaverud stretched the game into extra innings with an impressive 50-save performance.

Ms. Hockey finalist Maddy Christian recorded the first goal for the Elks, and MaKenna Beaver tallied the lone score for the Tornadoes.

Despite taking the loss, the sophomore Paaverud's season ends on a remarkable note, recording her sixth game of the season with 50 or more saves.

(2) Grand Rapids-Greenway 4, (7) Duluth 2

Grand Rapids-Greenway has now won six straight games, and eight of its last nine, with the quarterfinal win over Duluth.

Mercury Bischoff (no surprise) led the Lightning in scoring with two goals and three points, followed by single goals from Kylie DeBay and Molly Pierce.

Grace Karakas and Alana Moline each scored once for Duluth, and goaltender Sophie Mitchell made 25 saves on 28 shots in the loss.

Section 4AA (Play-In)

White Bear Lake 7, Mahtomedi 3

After a game that featured over 91 shots and 11 goals, White Bear Lake downed Mahtomedi 7-3 to earn the right to face No. 1 seed Gentry Academy on the Section 4AA playoffs.

Talia Domschot notched a hat trick to lead the Bears, with Hailey Dawe adding two goals and an assist. Ava Johnson and Amanda Smythe scored once each for the Bears. Goaltender Maya Marston stopped 38 of 41 shots in the win.

Karen Miller, Aysnlea Ulschmid, and Rylee Bogren were the goal-scorers for Mahtomedi, and eighth-grade goaltender Kaitlyn Galeazzi made 43 saves on 48 shots.

Gretchen Paaverud came within a goal of an upset-win over Elk River on Thursday, stopping 50 of 52 shots in a 2-1 double-overtime loss.

Class A

Section 2A

(5) Waconia 4, (4) Hutchinson 3

Waconia snapped an 11-game losing streak and scored its first goal in two games in a 4-3 upset win over Hutchinson on Thursday night, avenging a 5-2 loss against the Tigers in early December.

Maya Lindstrom scored twice for the Wildcats, with Ella Schluck and Sophia Braverman chipping in one goal apiece.

The victory was the first Section win in the Waconia program's history.

The Wildcats will face the Section's top seed, Mankato East, on Saturday at 7 P.M.

(3) Minnesota River 2, (6) Mankato West 1 (2OT)

Despite being outshot 42-25, Minnesota River emerged with a 2-1 victory in double-overtime over a pesky Mankato West squad.

Adrianna Bixby assisted in the game's first goal for Minnesota River, finding Christina Cruz for a power-play tally in the second period, then scored the game-winner at the 3:16 mark of the second overtime.

Emily Bloemke recorded the lone goal of the loss for the Scarlets.

Minnesota River goaltender Amelia Messer stopped 41 of 42 shots in the win, her third straight contest with 30 or more saves.

Minnesota River will face No. 2 seed Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato on Saturday at 1 P.M.

Section 3A

(5) Fairmont 2, (4) Windom 1

Fairmont picked up the mini-upset in a 2-1 win over Windom. The Cardinals will take on No. 1 seed New Ulm Saturday at 3 P.M.

(3) Marshall 3, (6) Worthington 2

Even while being limited to 12 total shots, Worthington held on for dear life in Thursday's Section 3A quarterfinal against Marshall, eventually succumbing to the Tigers 3-2.

Aubree Metheny scored two goals, including the eventual game-winner at the 10:03 mark of the third period for Marshall, while Leah Schaefer added a single score.

MaKenna Nickel and Kessey Aljets each scored once for Worthington, and goaltender Lillyann Newman stopped 30 of 33 shots in the tough-luck loss.

Marshall will face No. 2 seed Luverne on Saturday at 1 P.M.

Section 6A

(4) Willmar 8, (5) Prairie Centre 0

Willmar played less-than-hospitable host to Prairie Centre on Thursday night, scoring twice in the first period, four times in the second, and twice more in the third for an 8-0 victory.

Chloe Lownsbury and Makenna Larson each scored twice in the win for the Cardinals. Becca Dawson, Nina Dawson, Lauren Eilers, and Gretchen Volk each added a goal for Willmar.

Blue Devil goaltender Kennedy Lemke stopped 67 of 75 shots, her fifth game of the season in which Lemke made 60 or more saves.

(3) Northern Lakes 4, (6) Morris/Benson 0

It'll be a battle of the lakes in the Section 6A semifinals, as Northern Lakes will face second-seeded River Lakes after topping Morris/Benson 4-0 on Thursday night.

The game marks the sixth consecutive victory for the Lightning.
