Logan Gravink scored midway through the second overtime on Saturday night to lift Andover to its first state championship.

Class AA State Championship

Andover 6, Maple Grove 5 (2OT)

Andover's Cayden Casey celebrate after scoring during Saturday night's championship win over Maple Grove.

The Star
Logan Gravink, Andover

Score the game-winning goal in the state championship makes you the star in any capacity. Gravink tallied his first point of the tournament midway through the second overtime on Saturday night, his first goal in his last four games. With studs Cayden Casey and Gavyn Thoreson on empty tanks, Gravink stepped up in a way that will never be forgotten.

The Stalwart
Kyle Law, Andover

Law was credited with an assist on Gavyn Thoreson’s game-tying goal with just 1:50 to play in regulation, but the senior’s defense played a pivotal role in the Huskies’ victory. Law finished with a game-high four blocked shots, including a pair in the extra sessions. Without Law’s bodily sacrifice, the game could have taken an unfortunate turn for the Huskies.

The Savior
Mark Manney, Andover

2022 was Manney’s third time taking his Huskies to the Big Dance, and the third time proved to be the charm. This Huskies team was vastly different from the No. 1 overall seed in 2020, the group helmed by NHL Draft pick Wyatt Kaiser. Losing in the quarterfinals as the top seed is always cause for negative whispers from those who can’t feel joy, but Manney’s plucky Huskies captured the ultimate prize with less firepower.

The Quote
“Our captains, I love every single one of them. That’s what I’m gonna miss the most out of all of this, is the effort our captains give…we pick everybody up.”

- Andover senior captain Weston Knox

Maple Grove's Toby Hopp stopped 38 of 44 shots in Saturday's loss.
