When the 2023-2024 girls’ high school hockey season kicks off next fall, it will be the first time a roster hasn’t featured Uma Corniea since 2016. It truly is the end of an era.

Corniea’s career began at Class A powerhouse Breck as a middle-schooler, leading the Mustangs to back-to-back state championships before returning to her old stomping grounds at Edina’s famed Braemar Ice Arena.

A four-year starter for the Hornets, Corniea never owned a goals-against-average over 0.92 and never had a save percentage that dipped below .956. She concludes her career with the most wins in MSHSL history, according to the league’s record books, and also owns the state record for career shutouts.

This year, Corniea posted a record of 21-5-2 and 11 clean sheets, leading the Hornets to a third-place finish at the Class AA State Tournament.
