They were as good as gold!

2023 Boys' Combine Champs - Gold

After multiple 15 minute mini-games this week, the teams finally laced up their skates and played a full game. The top two teams met for the championship and the bottom two faced off for third place.

The girls final was a back and forth struggle. Gold got a late goal by Ella Ringold to lift them to the championship. Poppy Carlson stopped 15 of 17 shots to earn the W.

The boys final was never in doubt after a first period onslaught. Gold scored a minute and change into the game on a pretty snipe by Tristan Starkey. It was all downhill after that for the Golden Boys. Brody Lutner and camp leading scorer Owen Konrad  poured in two goals a piece to pace the Gold to the title.

High Skill, High Fun!

Becca Dhaene was one of the five fastest skaters in the camp Thursday

During the morning session Thursday, players hit the ice to show off their speed and hands. Each player took a lap around the Ridder rink for a shot at the "Fastest Skater" title. For the second year in a row, a girl skater recorded the fastest time. Maddison Brown clipped the frozen pond in 15 seconds flat. Around the same time it took Hadley Bakker last year. Grady Kranz had the second fastest time and took the boys title.

After their skate, we whittled down the best shootout performers to a group of four for each group. Genevieve Nelson edged Maddison Brown in the girls and Connor Adams took home the boys crown.

Awards Winners

Logan Bina, Best Camper (Grand Forks) - Nolan Marto, Best Forward (Grand Forks), Liam Brooks, Best Defender (Duluth) and Nolan Johnson, Best Goalie (Otsego)

With over 150 kids from all over Minnesota, North Dakota and Wisconsin - choosing eight players as "best" is challenging. We met dozens of great kids who could have taken home a "best" plaque this past week.

We had players who made state tournaments at PeeWee, 12U and girls high school. Players from all seven area codes plus a few from the 701 and 608. The cross section of attendees and the amount of talented skaters made for a fun week for the YHH and Gopher staff.

Best Forward - Nolan Marto and Maddison Brown
Best Defense - Teagan Olson and Liam Brooks
Best Goalie - Poppy Carlson and Nolan Johnson
Best Camper - Logan Bina and Barrett Carroll

Barrett Carroll, Best Camper (Minnetonka), Maddison Boone - Best Forward (Woodbury) - Teagan Olson, Best Defense (Andover) and Poppy Carlson, Best Goalie (Minnetonka)
