After beating Team Pennsylvania, Manitoba, and Connecticut without needing an extra session, Team Minnesota found itself in overtime on Wednesday against Toronto Pro Hockey. 

The opportunistic skaters from Canada’s largest metropolitan area struck early and often, netting the game’s first three goals, including two in the second period just 11 seconds apart.

Undeterred, Team Minnesota came roaring back, scoring three times in the third period to force a fourth period. Mason Unkelsbay beat Toronto’s stud goaltender Peter Jovanovic five-hole for the game-winner. 

Team Minnesota now enters Thursday with a 4-0 record, the top spot in the Wigston Conference, and is tied with Montreal for the tourney’s best overall record.

Decked out in some of the coolest uniforms this side of Yaletown, the BC Jr. Canucks are literally wearing history on their sleeves this week. 

BC’s home whites are adorned with the names of the current NHL players that skated for the province’s Brick teams, including two-time All-Star Mat Barzal and newly minted No. 1 overall pick Connor Bedard. 

The Jr. Canucks have lived up to the lofty expectations earned by those that came before them so far, slotting into second place in the Wigston Conference behind Team Minnesota with a 3-1 record. In their lone game Wednesday, the Jr. Canucks edged Manitoba 2-1, scoring twice in the third period. 

Toronto Pro Hockey awaits the Jr. Canucks tomorrow afternoon. 

The Saskatchewan Jr. Pats are still searching for their first victory of the week, but the skaters from Sask may be the squad that’s given the fans their proverbial money’s worth so far. 

Despite being 0-4, the Styles Conference resident Pats have scored more goals (17) than all but four teams in the entire field, and their 17 goals would rate second in the Wigston Conference. Three of the Jr. Pats’ four games have seen more than 13 goals, and the lone contest that didn’t finish in combined double-digits saw nine total tallies. 

The Jr. Pats lost both games today by a final score of 8-5 against CCM Chicago and the Western Selects, respectively. In both games the Jr. Pats kept their opponents far from comfortable, scoring five times in the last 10:01 of regulation against Chicago after being down 8-0 and taking Western Selects into the third period trailing by a single goal.
