A two-way power forward that possesses high-end puck skills and plays a physical game with compete and tenacity, Hagen Burrows is a player that has excelled at every level. Averaging over a point per game in the USHL with Sioux City before the high school season began, Burrows could have easily remained in juniors but decided to rejoin the Skippers in their mission for back-to-back state titles. 

On a Minnetonka team that features endless talent, Burrows leads the team in points this season with 56 (19 goals, 37 assists) in 26 games, leading to a 130-point total over his high school hockey career. 

In all likelihood he will play a full season with the Sioux City Musketeers next season before joining the Denver Pioneers for the 2025-26 season. Listed at No. 64 in Central Scouting’s North American Midterm Rankings, Burrows is a name to watch for the 2024 NHL Draft.

Player: Javon Moore

Javon Moore is an eye-catching player on the ice due to the combination of his 6’3” frame with his elite skating ability and playmaking skills. His powerful skating and strength on the puck causes headaches for any team he comes up against, with his passing vision and hard shot constantly creating scoring opportunities for the Skippers. 

Moore’s storied high school career has seen him hit over 35 points each of his three seasons playing varsity, with his senior season being the best one yet as he just hit the 50-point mark, scoring 24 goals and 26 assists for almost a two point-per-game average. 

Sitting at No. 47, Moore is the top-rated Minnesotan playing high school hockey on the 2024 Central Scouting North American Skaters Mid-term list. Selected by Sioux Falls with pick No. 17 in the 2022 USHL Entry Draft, Moore will suit up for the Stampede for a season or two before returning to the Twin Cities to play for the Gophers.

Player: Jackson Nevers

Jackson Nevers is a tenacious forward whose game features a nice blend of physicality and compete with a ton of offensive talent. Nevers plays a 200-foot game with constant effort and pressure on the puck, and he never shies away from driving the net hard for a goal. 

Leading the Hornets as the team’s captain both his junior and senior year, Nevers has also led the team in points both seasons, hitting the 20 goal-20 assist mark last season before surpassing that total with 47 points (17 goals, 30 assists) through 26 games this season. 

Nevers is keeping pace with his older brother Mason, who was selected as a Mr. Hockey finalist in 2019, and will have never-ending bragging rights were he to win the award. Post his junior hockey career, Nevers will follow in Mason’s footsteps and play for the Minnesota Gophers.

Player: Carson Pilgrim

One of the most lethal scorers in the state, center Carson Pilgrim is a crafty player who excels due to his top-notch puck skills, quick shot release, and awareness/vision on the ice. He leads the Warriors by example and has an ability to come up big in clutch moments when the team most needs it. 

Following a spectacular junior season in which he recorded 92 points (52 goals, 40 assists) alongside last year’s Mr. Hockey winner, Jayson Shaugabay, Pilgrim has had another standout season, leading the Warriors with 57 points (28 goals, 29 assists) through 26 games. 

Drafted at No. 18 overall in the 2023 USHL Entry Draft by Tri-City, look for Pilgrim in a Storm jersey next season. Were Pilgrim to be selected Mr. Hockey, he would be the third winner in Warroad’s history to win the award. 

Player: Nolan Roed
Team: White Bear Lake Bears
Position: Forward
College Commitment: St. Cloud State Huskies

Team-leader Nolan Roed is a high-compete player who exhibits great skating ability with acceleration and power, continuously moving his feet and attacking the goal. He is a high-end finisher with a great shot and displays a willingness to go to the dirty areas whenever needed. 

In all three of his high school seasons he has been the Bears leading points scorer, hitting 40 points (19 goals, 21 assists) as a sophomore, before hitting 55 points last season (24 goals, 31 assists) and 50 (29 goals, 21 assists) so far this season. 

He skated with the Tri-City Storm in 16 games and posted 13 points before coming home to play for the Bears. Roed slotted in at No. 142 on the Central Scouting North American Mid-term Ranking.

Player: John Stout

College Commitment: Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs

The lone defenseman selected as a finalist, John Stout is a two-way defender that plays a poised and smart game from the back end combined with the ability to flip from defense to offense in a flash and lead the rush. A lockdown player on the blue line, Stout is extremely effective quarterbacking a power play with his puck control, passing vision, and high-end shot. 

Stout has racked up 63 points in 84 games played (0.75 PPG average) in his three-year varsity career and he also excelled in two seasons in the Elite League, with 37 points in 44 games against top competition. 

Drafted with pick No. 41 in the 2022 USHL Futures Draft, Stout’s junior rights were recently traded to the Madison Capitols, with Madison likely being his next destination before heading to Minnesota Duluth

Player: Gavin Uhlenkamp

College Commitment: Wisconsin Badgers

While speed demon Gavin Uhlenkamp might be the smallest finalist in stature standing at only 5’7”, he is also the quickest skater of the bunch and likely the fastest skater in the entire state. The combination of Uhlenkamp’s size, pace, and agility causes fits for any defender he comes up against, and he constantly finds a way to separate himself from the opposition before creating scoring opportunities with his playmaking abilities.

A four-year varsity player for the Storm, Uhlenkamp has upped his total points in each successive season, starting with 12 points as a freshman while already hitting the 50-point mark (20 goals, 31 assists) in only 21 games his senior year.

Skating in 11 USHL games with the Madison Capitols before the high school season began and recording three points in that short junior stint, Uhlenkamp will remain in the state of Wisconsin and play for the Badgers after his junior career.

Player: Noah Urness

Skilled playmaking forward Noah Urness is undersized but a fierce competitor with a career stat line that exhibits a high-end ability to find the back of the net. Urness plays a 200-foot game with speed and tenacity, helping out in corner battles on the defensive end before turning the puck up ice in a flash and attacking the offensive zone. 

Urness has amassed incredible numbers over his four-year high school career, logging 244 total points in 102 games played (2.39 PPG average), with an additional 41 points tallied in 34 Elite League games. 

Unfortunately, with the Rams falling short in the section quarterfinals, Noah’s high school career has ended but he has likely already rejoined the Cranbrook Bucks of the BCHL, a junior league where Urness had instant success after putting up 14 points in 18 games before the high school season began

Amongst a stacked Wayzata Trojans team, forward Rhys Wallin stands out whenever he is on the ice due to his 6’3” frame and offensive creativity. Wallin incorporates a ton of finesse into his game which is rare for his size, with a strong skating stride and an uncanny ability to set-up teammates with his elite passing vision.

Wallin has reached the 30-point mark in all three of his varsity seasons with the Trojans, starting with an even 30 (7 goals, 23 assists) as a sophomore, before tallying 35 (13 goals, 22 assists) as a junior, and sitting with 37 (17 goals, 20 assists) through 26 games this season, with more likely to be added to that total. 

Currently uncommitted, Wallin’s junior rights are owned by the Tri-City Storm of the USHL after being drafted in round 10 of the 2023 Entry Draft.

One of two finalists hailing from Class A, Louie Wehmann is a power forward whose game features a combination of strength and toughness, mixed with an ability to score at will. Wehmann is a player that each opposing coach circles as someone to focus on, but his size, motor, and powerful skating stride makes that easier said than done.

Wehmann has led the team in points over his last three seasons at Providence Academy, recording an astonishing 210 points in 78 games (2.69 PPG average) over those three seasons and accounting for 24% of the team’s total points in that span. 

Recording nine points in 20 games with the St. Cloud Norsemen (NAHL) before the high school season began, Wehmann will likely rejoin the Norsemen post-season before potentially playing with the Fargo Force next year, with the Force selecting him with pick No. 54 of the 2022 USHL Draft

Player: Hunter Bauer

Backstopping the No. 1-rated team all season is no easy feat, especially when it is your first real season as the starting goaltender, but Hunter Bauer has done just that and made it look easy while helping the Skippers remain undefeated with a 24-0-2 record. Showing incredible consistency and rebound control, Bauer has only allowed 20 goals all season with 12 shutouts, leading to a 0.89 GAA and .948 SV%. 

Bauer has committed to play for the Dauphin Kings of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League (MJHL) for the 2024-25 season.

Player: Kam Hendrickson

Hendrickson is a technically-sound goaltender who possesses great quickness, top-notch reflexes and overall fundamentals, leading to his name being consistently mentioned when discussing the top goaltender in the state. Starting in 35 games for the Storm over the past two seasons, Hendrickson has led the team to a 36-9-0 record in that span with 16 shutouts, posting a combined .946 SV% and 1.04 GAA.

Hendrickson’s prowess has been recognized on a national level as he was included on Team USA’s roster for the 2023 Hlinka Gretzky Cup. 

Player: A.J. Reyelts

With his 6’2”, 185-pound frame, sound positioning, and athleticism, A.J. Reyelts possesses all the traits that make a great goalie. Even though he missed the first eight games of the season due to injury, Reyelts still faced the most shots (538) compared to the other finalists while posting impressive numbers in his 18 starts in net, including a 1.49 GAA and .950 SV%. 

Reyelts is the only Frank Brimsek finalist that has committed to a Division I program, and he will likely play for the Kenai River Brown Bears (NAHL) next season after being drafted by the Brown Bears in round four of the 2023 draft.
