Stolen Goalie Equipment: Happy Ending

A couple weeks ago a sad tale unfolded when Jordyn Tomaszewksi had all of her goalie equipment stolen from the back of her mom’s truck in St. Cloud.  Her story is well documented in this WCCO story. In an instant her goalie was gone the week before tryouts as U14 in Blaine.

The equipment was never returned, but in almost an instant a great story of it being replaced unfolded.

With a couple of tweets and retweets on Twitter, one by YHH, hockey apparel maker Gong Show stepped up and stepped up quickly to right this wrong. In a partnership with Total Hockey, Jordyn was able to get all of her equipment replaced last weekend at the Minnetonka Total Hockey store.  New pads, gloves, mask, skates…you name it, it was all replaced. An amazing use of social media.  See a follow up story about her day of shopping at Total Hockey here on WCCO last Sunday.

A huge shoutout to Total Hockey’s Michael Benoit and Gong Show Gear’s Ger McNemee as the two companies partnered together to get Jordyn fully geared from head to toe. An experience she will never forget.

In addition to the free equipment offer, several current and past goalies in the Twin Cities came forward offering Jordyn full and partial sets of equipment for Jordyn to use due to her loss.

Jordyn and her mother Robin were blown away by the support they received from complete strangers throughout this process.  Her mom told YHH, “the people who made this happen will never be forgotten. They put trust and hope back in a young athletes heart. I have stayed awake at night trying to figure out what we can do to pay it forward. Something will come to us, I know it.”

Not soon after receiving her stuff, she hit the artificial ice at Stauber’s Goalcrease and broke in her stuff. A happy but  bittersweet moment for Jordyn.  Mostly happy, she got to do what she really loves…play hockey.
