Game 1: Blades knock off Chicago Young Americans 5-1…Mitch Kohner had 2 goals and Zach Michaelis, Luke Kron, and Grant Kwapick each added a tally for the Minnesotans.

Note: The Blades original game 1 versus the New Jersey Colonials was moved to this evening, 8:30 Eastern.

In other action: The Chicago Young Americans knocked off the London Jr. Knights (The Blades Saturday opponent) 3-2.  The Chicago Mission beat the Cleveland Jr. Jacks 6-3 and Little Caesars knocked off the Pittsburgh Jr. Penguins 2-1

NEWS FLASH: In an odd twist, the MN Blades were forced to forfeit their first game due to a paper work problem with one of their players and USAH eligibility. Speaking to Blades officials via phone, YHH learned of this problem after the game.  By all accounts, their team was approved by USAH to play in this event.

Game 2: With no backup goalie, the Blades were forced to put Gunnar Thoreson (a skater for the Blades) in the nets versus the NJ Colonials. Despite no game experience, he did well enough to earn a Tier 1 win.  The Blades prevailed by beating the travel weary Colonials 7-5. Carson Bantle had two short handed goals, Joey Miller, Johnny Tucker, Zach Michaelis and Luke Kron each scored for the Minnesotans.

After Day 1 the Blades sit at 1-1, heading into their final game of Pool Play versus the London Knights. Plans are for the Blades to have a goalie, Jake Lissick, in time for this game and a subsequent Quarterfinal game in the afternoon.

In other action: Team Illinois is 2-0, Chicago Mission is 2-0, and Little Caesars’ is 2-0 to lead the other three Pools.

Stay tuned tomorrow for more news from Detroit.
