District 12 Peewee A Playoffs

The District 12 playoffs are played this weekend at the Eveleth Hippodrome.  It will be a four team, double eliminations tourney.

Virginia A gets the #1 seed to the District 12 playoffs.  The Blue Devils will play the #4 seeded International Falls.  Virginia has beaten International Falls twice in league play 10-1 and 8-1.  At the Paul Bunyan tourney, the Blue Devils lost to Brainerd 12-5, Eagan 9-5, and beat Keweenaw Michigan 6-1 in pool play.  In bracket play they beat Marquette Michigan 10-7 and lost to Cloquet 4-3 in the Blue Ox championship game.  The Blue Devils can be tough.  The Broncos have been near winless going into the district playoffs for the last five years and they have come out with a regional seed.  This year the Broncos have won a few games and had showing at the Detroit Lakes Tourney in December going 2-2.   They beat Northern Lakes 3-2 in a shootout and beat Mandan ND 4-3.  The Broncos also had a good Fort Francis tourney winning two games.  Last week, they beat Eveleth/Mesabi East 8-3 in a D12 game.  The Broncos can surprise, but not in this game.  Virginia wins.

Greenway took second place from Eveleth/Mesabi East by winning late in the season.  The #2 Green Raiders play the Golden Bears in the second game Saturday.  The Bears lost to Greenway two weeks ago 5-3 and are struggling as the season ends.  In front of the hometown fans, Eveleth wins.

In the Championship game, Virginia beats Eveleth to take D12’s  #1 seed to the North Peewee A Regional played in Two Harbors.  Greenway beats International Falls to eliminate the Broncos.  Eveleth beats Greenway in the game for the #2 seed.

District 12 Peewee AA Playoffs

There is no D12 playoff with only two associations (Hibbing and Grand Rapids) fielding AA teams this year.  Grand Rapids gets the #1 seed in D12.  NOW ranks the Thunderhawks #11 in the state and have a 27-8-1 record on the season.  They beat Duluth East AA 8-1, Brainerd AA 7-5, Hermantown AA 4-0, Bemidji AA 6-1 and tied Moorhead AA 3-3 in the last two weeks.  They hold a 14-0 win over Hibbing AA.  The Bluejackets have struggled all season.  At the Cloquet Barn Burner the first week in February, Hibbing lost to Orono A 11-2, Sartell A 5-4, and Brainerd A 4-3.  They had been improving in January.  The Bluejackets take the #2 seed in D12.
