The Hornets Set to Chase New Streak

Spirit of Duluth PeeWees

Less than a week after a great PeeWee tournament, why not hold another one? The Spirit of Duluth falls one week after Eden Prairie First Test. A tournament that saw Edina fall in PeeWees for the first time in three years. YHH expects the Hornets to rebound from this loss and win the tournament.

However, there are a few new teams that will test the Hornets and a few teams for YHH to see.  Yes. I said see. Sport NGIN will be broadcasting games from Duluth, we hope to catch a few of these broadcasts streamed back in the cities.

Preview and Predictions

Pool A

Edina

Duluth East

Madison Capitals

White Bear Lake

Commentary: Edina looks to be the class of this tournament and this pool. Don't discount Duluth East. They have had a great start to the season, including a good run through Northwest Minnesota last week. YHH still looking for White Bear to unlock their potential this year.

Prediction: Edina will get a test from Duluth East this year, but it is too early in the season for the Hounds to seriously challenge the Hornets.

Pool B

Hermantown

Prior Lake

Thunder Bay

Wayzata

Commentary: A very good pool with a few good teams. Prior Lake has a great formula for tourney success: good coach, superstar goalie, a couple goal scorers and a great supporting cast. They are in every game they play. Wayzata is a lot like Prior Lake, even down to the color of uniform.  They are not as well balanced scoring as Prior Lake, but they have some size and speed that will help them contend for Bracket Play.

Prediction: Prior Lake in a nail biter over Wayzata.

Pool C

Osseo Maple Grove

Eden Prairie

Elk River

Cloquet

Commentary: Every tournament has an unbalanced pool.  Pool C is a tossup pool. Every team has a chance in every game.  OMG is probably the slight favorite, but don't count out Cloquet, they have had a nice start so far this year, as has Elk River and Eden Prairie.  All four of these teams will likely be in the discussion for state come the first Sunday in March.

Prediction: OMG by a whisker over Cloquet.  Elk River and EP will make this a very entertaining six games.

Pool D

Superior

Minnetonka

Centennial

Duluth Denfeld

Commentary: This looks to be a two horse race.  Minnetonka, coming off their tourney victory in Eden Prairie is riding high right now. Superior, after a dissappointing start at the BIG Pumpkin has rebounded very nicely the last six weeks and has owned the Northeast part of Minnesota.  The winner of their Friday night game in Superior will likely advance.

Prediction: Slight edge to Tonka, they are hot and they have one of the best players in Minnesota, Jack Bayless.  He will be hard to contain for just about any team, even the top team from Wisconsin.

Final Four:

Edina will knock off Tonka in the A v D game and OMG will take down Prior Lake in the C v D game in a rematch of a Pumpkin pool play game.  Edina will take out OMG in a rematch of the Velocity 3 v 3 final in September.

Jack Bayless, Minnetonka, was YHH's Tourney MVP for the Champion Skippers at the EP tourney last weekend.
