Josie Hemp goes top shelf for Huskies

The Huskies Roar past Coon Rapids, 10-1.

Thursday night at the Super Rink YHH tracked down the #3 rated Andover Huskies U10A team. Entering their game with Coon Rapids, they were 8-2-1 with their only losses to Northfield and Wayzata.

On this night it was all Andover.  In the first period, Coon Rapids hung tough  with the Huskies, sustaining some pressure in the Andover zone and getting a few shots on goal.  Billie Donohue got the scoring started in the first on the first shift of the game scoring a pretty pass from Halle Fields. Later in the first, Donohue scored again, this time on a feed from Peyton Hemp to make it 2-0 in favor of the black and gold after one.

The Huskies got rolling in the second period when Grace Berg scored on the Power Play, when she went 5 Hole on the Coon Rapids goalie with a wrist shot. A minute later, the Huskie went up 4-0 when Peyton Hemp went 5 hole again to extend their lead. The Huskies would add five goals in the second, until Coon Rapids star, Brook DelCastillo (daughter of Minnesota hockey legend and current Hamline Hockey Coach, Doc) broke loose from the Andover defense on a breakaway with a minute left in the second to make it 7-1 after two in favor of Andover.

The third period was all Andover. After Donohue got a hat trick on the Andover seventh goal, the Huskies' Josie Hemp notched one herself scoring Andover's last goal making the final 10-1.

Andover had way too much speed and skill for Coon Rapids to compete. Give credit to the Cardinals for fighting to the end. This is a really nice team, that will likely surprise some teams as they gain experience down the stretch of the season.
