Pool Play Outlook

This year's Squirt A field is a 12 team affair.  EP usually draws some of the best Squirt teams from all over Minnesota. This year it is an all metro affair. And missing from the field are regulars Edina and Osseo Maple Grove. Regardless, it is still a very strong field.

Black Pool: Sibley, STMA, Eden Prairie, and Eastview

This looks to be a field that favors the host team Eden Prairie. Eden Prairie has consistently placed it's teams fairly in Pool Play at all three top levels of play.  Sibley, Eastview, and STMA have gotten off to slow starts. Last year, Eastview was a relative unknown and did very well.

Prediction: Eden Prairie

Read Pool: Chaska/Chan, Stillwater, Andover, and Rosemount

A very good pool with all four teams with a chance to advance.  Chaska Chan is the only team rated in YHH Top 10, but Andover has some frequent flier miles in the T10 and Stillwater has played some good games this year. Last year's champ, Rosemount, is not the same powerhouse as last year, but they will make some noise. We saw them in the D8 showcase and liked their upside.

Prediction: Chaska/Chan (narrowly over Andover)

White Pool: White Bear Lake, Lakeville South, Minnetonka, and Elk River

Another great pool.  White Bear is the #2 team in Minnesota behind OMG, they are the prohibitive favorite to win this pool.  That said, all three teams have had some early season success.

Prediction: White Bear Lake

Wild Card: The Wild Card will go to a team that finishes second in their pool and likely have a low goal differential.  It will be either Andover from Red or Eastview from the Black. Coin flipped...Andover.

Final Four:

White Bear Lake > Andover
Eden Prairie > Chaska Chan

Championship:

White Bear Lake > Eden Prairie

Commentary: White Bear will be too much for the teams in this field.  Two reasons why: Lucius Brothers and Sweeney Brothers (that's one) and Anton Castro and Leyton Roed.  This team has three kids (Roed, Chaz Lucius, and Ryan Sweeney) that would be the best players on any Squirt A team in the state...and they are all on the same team. White Bear could get tested by EP in the finals.  Super Stars Drew Holt (#8) and Carter Batchhelder (#15) could make the difference.

YHH will broadcast the Championship Game Live on YHH. Face off will be at 4:15 on Sunday afternoon.
