First Period

An early start to a special opportunity for some players from the Northwest and Southeast suburbs of the metro area.  Osseo Maple Grove, the unanimous number one team in Minnesota took on Park Cottage Grove who is a consensus top ten team.

Both teams came out flying for the first game played on the ice surface that feature several games by local teams including the University of Minnesota Men's and Women's teams in the Hockey City Classic next weekend.

Osseo Maple Grove got on the board first when Kyle Kukkonen fired a wrist shot top shelf for the 1-0 lead.  A couple minutes later, the same OMG line (Kukkonen, Brock Faber, and Justin Janicke) put more pressure on the Wolfpack.  Faber got loose in the corner and streaked out into the slot where he fired a wrist shot on net where linemate Justin Janicke tipped it in for a 2-0 lead heading into the first intermission.OMG took control of the game and gave the Wolfpack very few chances  in the first period.

Second Period

Early in the second, Josh Brown from Cottage Grove got loose and nearly got a goal.  Down 2-0, the Wolfpack were just a goal away from making a game of it. As the second period wore on, the Wolfpack under constant pressure began to lose confidence with every shift. Slowly the game began to look like an OMG powerplay. First liner, Brock Faber got on the scoresheet in the second when he knocked in a rebound to make the game 3-0 at the end of the second period and essentially put the game out of reach for PCG.

Third Period

With a 3-0 lead, OMG continued to pressure Cottage Grove in every facet of the game. They would add three goals, one on a great pass from Ryan Reid to Cade Wessman who went top shelf near the North end zone of the football stadium. to make it 4-0 early in the third.  The Wolfpack kept battling, forwards Dalton Anderson and Joe Polodichuk showed flashes of brilliance but could not muster a goal against the strong blue line of Osseo Maple Grove. The Crimson and Black scored two more goals to get the game into running time to make the final score 6-0.

Each team's parents flocked the ice afterward to get team pics of their boys and take in the great stage that the big boys and girls will play on the next two weekends.
