Hats Off to Drew Holt for a 3 goal Night

Kai Nelson's shot falls into the net for the Game Winning Goal for EP Red

Both Eden Prairie A and B teams advance to Bracket Play

Seven more games are in the books for the 2014 Squirtacular. Both Eden Prairie A and B teams advanced to Bracket play Friday earning their second wins in successive nights. Drew Holt scored the first three goals  for the Eagles including a beautiful bar in shot that dropped the jaw of many including the referee reporting the score to the Official Scorer in Rink 1 at Bloomington Ice Garden. The Eagles top line accounted for five of the first six Eagle goals. Tristan Tabucol added a pair of goals for the Ponies. The EP A team 7, Stillwater 3.

The EP Squirt B team had more of an adventure than the A team. They too, played a team from District 2, the Mahtomedi Gold Zephyrs. The Zephyrs got on the board when Adam Johnson scored the first of his two goals late in the second period. The third period would be an entertaining back and forth battle. Squirt hockey at it's finest. A lot of one man rushes, turnovers in the slot with a ton of near misses, and best of all lots end of the game drama. Eden Prairie would tie the score early in the third when Joseph Michellizzi scored for EP. Then two minutes later, Eli Jackel scored on a pretty pass from Michelizzi to make it 2-1 in favor of Eden Prairie with eight minutes to go. A couple minutes later, Adam Johnson got his stick on a rebound off of Alec Aldrich to tie the score at 2. The Zephyrs kept battling, outshooting Eden Prairie 17-7 in the third period and 30-15 for the game...but Aldrich kept them at bay. With four minutes to go, Griffin Streed got loose for EP and carried the puck on one of his patented end to end rushes - this time he made a great feed to Kai Nelson and Nellie fired it past the Mahtomedi goalie for the eventual game winning goal. The Zephyrs would challenge, but to no avail. Final score, EP Red 3, Mahtomedi Gold 2.

Other Games

Jack Smith Scores for St. Cloud to make it 3-2 Huskies

SQA: St. Cloud and Rosemount tied 3-3.  A great back and forth game. One of the best games of the night. Both teams had great chances to win it.  Jack Smith had two goals for the Huskies and Will Norris tied it late for the Irish.

SQA: Apple Valley rebounded with an 11-1 win over STMA. Jack Novak had 3 goals and 3 assists to lead Apple Valley who had seven different skaters light the lamp. Apple Valley takes on Jefferson Sunday for a bid in Bracket play.  The loser will likely go home (assuming Jefferson doesn't beat #1 OMG).

SQB: Edina Grey got off to a nice start in the YHH Squirtacular beating Kennedy 9-0. AJ Doll had a goal and three assists for the Hornets. They face Sibley and Mahtomedi Blue to advance to Bracket play.

SQB: Apple Valley knocked off neighborhood rival Burnsville 10-0. Adam Wiggins had the hat trick for the Eagles. Hudson Hatfield and Welly Martinson also added a pair of goals for Apple Valley.

SQB: Centennial Black and Prior Lake Navy played one of the most exciting games of the tournament so far. Centennial lead 3-1 with 5 minutes left in the game Connor Dickman scored for the Cougars. But 20 seconds later Matt Coyle got the Lakers back in the game with a goal to make it 3-2. And then with 12 seconds remaining, Zack Schmidt got a loose puck in front of the net and put the puck top shelf to tie the score at 3! Final Score, Centennial 3, Prior Lake 3.
