Edina looks to get their hands on the prize

Eden Prairie will host "Winter Classic" Bantam A tournament this weekend. Three of the top 15 teams are in this tourney. This tournament is a pool play format and has two pools, eight teams total. Here are how the pools lay out:

POOL BLACK

Farmington

Centennial

Eden Prairie

Elk River

POOL RED

#1 Edina

Wayzata

Moorhead

Stillwater

Fridays Games

Farmington v Centennial: Farmington has played Centennial three times this year. They won all three, only allowing five goals total in all the games. I predict Farmington getting another win over Centennial in this match-up.

Edina v Wayzata: The Hornets and Trojans have had up and down games. They have played each other twice and they have each one won. Edina has a hard working team and will out play Wayzata and get their first win of the tourney.

Eden Prairie v Elk River: These two teams are both on the down side of the season. They haven't faced off against each other yet. EP will have the home ice advantage but Elk River will keep them quite. These two teams will fight to the end but they will skate to a tie as their is no OT in pool play.

Moorhead v Stillwater: The Spuds haven't played Stillwater yet. Moorhead has a winning record this year and Stillwater is about even. This will be a close game but the Spuds will take the victory.

Saturdays Games

Eden Prairie v. Farmington: Farmington is a good team. They will bring that skill out on to the ice against EP. The Tigers will outplay the Eagles and get their second win.

Centennial v. Elk River: Centennial and Elk River have played twice this year, each team with a win. This one will be a great battle for both squads. Centennial will be the stronger team and win this one.

Stillwater v. Edina: Edina is the #1 team in the state for BA (as of 1/23/14) and will be looking to stay at top. Edina will beat Stillwater in a blow-out game.

Wayzata v. Moorhead: Moorhead will be looking for their second victory and Wayzata for their first. This game will be a close one as both teams are very good. These two teams will end the game tied. With no OT, they both will get one point for pool play.

Elk River v. Farmington: The evening games will start off with this game. Farmington has not had the chance to play Elk River. This first game between these two will go in favor to Farmington. They will get their third win in the tourney.

Eden Prairie v. Centennial: The Eagles will be looking for their first win in front of their home fans. They will play a very well game and won't be afraid to shoot the puck. They will outplay and out score Centennial and get the win they have been looking for.

Moorhead v. Edina: Edina will be ready for their third win in the tourney. It will be a low scoring game but Edina will outplay Moorhead and also get the win.

Stillwater v. Wayzata: Both tams will be looking for their first "W" in the pool play bracket. Wayzata is a great team but so is Stillwater. Wayzata will come ready and take down Stillwater in a hard fought game.

Sundays Semis and Finals

The Semi-Finals will have the top two teams from each pool. From the black pool, Farmington and Eden Prairie will move on to the semis. From the other pool, Edina and Moorhead will move on.

Semi-Finals

Moorhead > Farmington (4-2)

Edina > Eden Prairie (5-0)

Championship

Edina > Moorhead (2-1)

Commentary

Edina has finished second three times so far this year (Albert Lea, Roseau, and Edina) will get off the schnide and win the Winter Classic on Sunday afternoon.  Wayzata, Eden Prairie, Moorhead and Farmington will all give chase for second place.  Farmington has played really well the last two weeks.  Both Wayzata and Eden Priaire have been up and down, this could be their weekend to shine.  Never count out a team from the north.  The Spuds could go all the way!
