Joe Palodichuk scores 5 Goals on Saturday for Park Cottage Grove

So Many Games, So Much on the Line

It was a full day of hockey in Minnesota. Some teams played in District play, some played first round District games, and some played for their lives. Over the next 8 days, the number of PeeWee/12 and Bantam/14 will slowly whittle down to Regional berths with several decided on the ice and others decided by a committee next Sunday.

YHH has been tweeting, traveling, texting and talking all day gathering a full report from all over the State of Hockey. Here is a (sorta) brief recap.

No Ordinary Joe

Joe Palodichuk scores top shelf in the Second period.

YHH hit the icy roads to take in a Squirt A game between Eastview and Park Cottage Grove.  We went to write a full game story. Within a few minutes the story of the game was Joe Palodichuk. The PCG forward put on a show for all of the hockey fans in attendance. In additon to scoring five goals, Joe drew a penalty on a breakaway and tallied a whopping 13 shots on goal leading his team to a 7-0 win.

Early in the first, Frankie Savard got the scoring started with an unassisted hard wrist from the right dot. A few minutes later, Cam Quinlan stuffed home a rebound to give the Pack a 2-0 lead. The game leveled off for 6 minutes with both teams getting a few chances. Then in one shift, Palodichuk scored twice 30 seconds apart to give PCG a 4-0 lead after 1.

In the second, Palodichuk buried a wrist shot unassisted on the short side for a 5-0 lead. Later in the second, Palodichuk stole a puck from an Eastview defender in the slot and his quick shot caught the top corner twine for his fourth goal, PCG lead 6-0 after 2.

In the third, both teams battled. Eastview had a few great chances, including a pipe shot. Late in the game, Palodichuk got his fifth goal with a shot in the slot. Logan Porter and Luke McCarthy got on the scoresheet with assists.

Final score, Park Cottage Grove 7, Eastview 0.
