OMG has all the Pieces in Place

Undefeated OMG heads North for the Big Prize

The Traveling Fargo Trophy

Every top 20 Squirt Hockey team points to "Fargo" as the crescendo to their season.  For some it is the end of the season, for others it is simply a great venue to celebrate a great season, and for a select few it is the prized jewel tournament.  In 2010, many from this year's number 1 ranked Eden Prairie Bantam AA team won the tournament...the next two years, Edina took home the prize.  Last year, Rosemount took home the prize.  Each of these years the favorite heading into the tournament has won. This year looks to be no different. The prohibitive favorite is Osseo Maple Grove. Undefeated and champs of all things Squirt hockey, the Crimson look to follow in the footsteps of some great teams in front of them.

OMG is not the only story line.  Each year a team rises up and surprises. In 2011, it was Grand Rapids. The Thunderhawks went on a nice run all the way to third place.  Last year, the Minneapolis Storm rammed their way through the entire field until they finally lost to Rosemount.

YHH is sure that there will be more magical moments made both on the ice and the rink and hotel lobbies trading pins.

Friday Morning, From 64 to 32

Here is our take on who will get out of the Friday morning matchups into the the round 32. These are some of the toughest to predict.  Several outside of Minnesota teams with little to no data.  The top 16 seeds are listed to the left of those teams. We don't pick against the top seeds, but we pick with a slight Minnesota bias based on history and extra 6 months age advantage.

Grand Forks Titans > Superior, WI

9 - Jefferson > Detroit Lakes

15 - Woodbury > West Fargo, ND

Littleton, CO > Thief River Falls

Moorhead > Devils Lake, ND

13 - Highland Central > Mankato

Grand Forks Gladiators > Armstrong

12 - Chaska Chan > Burnsville

Hermantown > Minnetonka

10 - East Grand Forks > St. Michael Albertville

Wayzata > Northern Colorado

14 - Grand Rapids > Sibley

Lumsden, SASK > Bismarck, ND

8 - Shakopee > Fairbanks, AK

16 - Stillwater > Fargo Blue

Bemidji > Rochester

Krivo > MAML

11 - Apple Valley > Fargo Black

Brainerd > Denver Jr. Pioneers, CO

5 - Park Cottage Grove > MPLS

Carolina Jr. Hurricanes, NC > Eagan

4 - St. Cloud > Affton Americans, IL

Fergus Falls > Colorado Rampage

3 - Edina > Farmington

7 - Prior Lake > Omaha Jr. Lancers

Rosemount > Alexandria

Roseau > Orono

6 - Eden Prairie > Orange County, CA

Little Falls > Minot, ND

2 - White Bear Lake > Northern Lakes

1 - Osseo Maple Grove > Fargo Freeze Silver

Warroad > Hyland Hills, CO

Can Prior Lake's Matt Beaty lead his team to the Fargo promiseland?

Friday Afternoon, from 32 to 16

Friday afternoon is when things will start to get interesting.  Teams seeds 10 thru 30 will play some nailbiter games.  A top 10 seed has gone down each year the last three years on Friday afternoon. This is also the stage where we may go off the board and pick an unseeded team or two.

9 - Jefferson > Grand Forks

Littleton, CO > 15 - Woodbury

Moorhead > 13 - Highland Central

12 - Chaska Chan > Grand Forks

11 - Apple Valley > Krivo

5 - Park Cottage Grove > Brainerd

Carolina Jr. Hurricanes > 4 - St. Cloud

3 - Edina > Colorado Rampage

7 - Prior Lake > Rosemount

6 - Eden Prairie > Roseau

2 - White Bear Lake > Little Falls

1 - OMG > Warroad

10 - East Grand Forks > Hermantown

14 - Grand Rapids > Wayzata

8 - Shakopee > Lumsden, SASK

Bemidji >  16 - Stillwater

Commentary: We pick 4 unseeded teams - Carolina, Bemidji, Moorhead and Littleton...three of them will knock off higher seeds, but we think Carolina can knock off St. Cloud. We also think that Roseau can give Eden Prairie all it can handle on Friday afternoon.

Saturday Morning, From 16 to 8

Saturday morning is when they separate the men from the boys.  Making it to the final 8 of the International is a big accomplishment for some teams.

7 - Prior Lake > 10 - East Grand Forks

2 - White Bear Lake > Littleton, CO

6 - Eden Prairie > 11 - Apple Valley

3 - Edina > 14 - Grand Rapids

Carolina Jr. Hurricanes > Moorhead

12 - Chaska Chan > 5 - Park Cottage Grove

9 - Jefferson > 8 - Shakopee

1 - OMG > Bemidji

Commentary: we take Chaska Chan over PCG, CC has won some big games this year, beating PCG would be another. Jefferson and Shakopee have split already this year, slight edge to the Jags. Prior Lake has just defeated EGF recently twice...a third time may be a struggle.

Max Burkholder and CC could pull the upset Saturday v. PCG

Saturday Night, From 8 to 4

2 - White Bear Lake > 7 - Prior Lake

3 - Edina > 6 - Eden Prairie

12 - Chaska Chan > Carolina

1 - OMG > 9 - Jefferson

Commentary: Three of the Quarterfinal games will be dandies...Prior Lake will give White Bear their monies worth and Edina and EP have had several good games already. And, Chaska Chan never makes it easy.

Sunday Morning, From 4 to 2

2 - WBL > 3 - Edina

1 - OMG > 12 - Chaska Chan

Commentary: The third matchup of the year between WBL and OMG can happen. But don't count out Edina.  Last year, Edina made a nice run to the final four and gave Rosemount trouble on Sunday...WBL will have to contend with Edina's speed and compete level and find more production from second year players not named Roed or Lucius. Chaska Chan has a nice team, but won't have the weapons to match OMG.

Before it's over Edina wil be a factor in Fargo

Championship

OMG > WBL

Commentary: In the last meeting between OMG and WBL, OMG scored early and never looked back.  The Crimson have two unbelievable lines and a third group that has some really important goals for their team this year. Their strong defensive corps gets little credit and their goalie has been lights out in both games. All of that said, don't count out White Bear...they have a nice cast of players and a great goalie of their own.

In January OMG hoisted the Squirtacular trophy, YHH says they will do the same in Fargo
