2000 Machine wins Stars and Stripes

Tick Tock

It was an exciting Sunday with two games being decided on last second goals in in regulation and shootouts ('04 and '01). Each time the team that scored late also won in shootouts! Upstart Euro Red knocked off the Machine Orange for their team's first big boy tournament win. Here are the recaps for Sunday's best in the Stars and Stripes.

Championship Sunday Recaps

06: The Machine Orange beat the US Western Prospect 4-2. The Orange were lead by team leading scorer Michael Risteau who had a goal and an assist. Drew Roleofs had the GWG for the Machine.

05: Ty Henricks had 4 goals for the Bauer Selects West as they outlasted the Machine Orange 9-4. The Selects scored four unanswered goals in the third period to win the Stars and Stripes...completing the clean weekend sweep.

04: The California Brick team found out exactly what they are made of as they head into the final stages of preparation for their trip to Edmonton. Down four goals on Saturday, they reeled off seven straight and beat the Blades on Satruday. On Sunday, it was deja vu. Down by four to the Miracle Gold, they stormed back. Scoring with 13 seconds to go in the second to cut the lead to 4-1. The Beach Boys then scored four of the game's next five goals including the game tying goal with by Cutter Gauthier with six seconds left in the game. California won in the shootout when Matthew Ng (no, that is not a typo) got the winner.

03: Chaz Lucius showed this weekend why he is the most explosive 2003 birth year player in Minnesota, maybe even the entire country. Lucius had 29 points in six games, including five in the Championship (3G, 2A). As the Blades beat the Machine 9-5 for their second consecutive Stars and Stripes win over the Orange. North Branch's Jack Harvey finished the tourney with 18 points, 4 Goals and 14 Helpers.

02: The Euro Red team has always been classified as the "third team" in the well stacked '02 Minnesota birth year. This year the Reds knocked off the Machine Orange in their tourney, but came up short in the finals in a shootout to the Machine. In the Stars and Stripes, The Reds won their pool and were paired against defending champs 2K2 Warriors, last year's SNS Champions. They defeated the Warriors 4-3 and the Orange knocked off the Icemen 12-0 setting up a rematch and rubber game in the SNS Championship. Kyle Kukkonen had 2G including the empty net goal that sealed it for the Reds as they knocked off the Orange 5-3.

01: Another last second affair at the '01 level. Down by a goal late in the third period, Jackson Jutting scored with no time left in regulation to tie the score for the Blades versus the American Stars. The Blades Ethan Benz got the GWG for the Blades as the Blades escaped St. Louis Park with the Stars and Stripes '01 Title. The American Stars have two second place trophies in two attempts (they lost in the ChiTown Shuffle title game as well to the Bauer Selects).

00: The Machine Orange defeated the Blades for the second consecutive year by a nearly identical score as 2013. Mike Vorlicky and Nick Strom each had a pair of goals for the Machine as they dominated the Blades 9-0.
