16 Top Minnesota Teams Set to Play

Sixteen of the top PeeWee AA teams for the 2014-15 season have verbally committed to play in this year's Big Pumpkin. The tournament will be held in Moorhead, MN this fall on October 31 to November 2. Of the 16 teams pledged, 10 will find themselves in the YHH Pre-Season Top 10 to start the season.

What appears to be one of the stronger and balanced fields of PeeWees we've seen in a few years with a lot of potential parity near the top. This year's Pumpkin field will feature teams who can't wait to stake a claim on number 1.

Teams to Watch

Andover - a very talented group of skaters that excelled this year as first years at the PeeWee AA. A team that will be loaded with speed and skill.

Blaine - a team that will surprise no one with the amount of talent that returns to this team. Couple this talent with potential new players moving in, this will definitely be a team to watch.

Chaska/Chan - last year's Pumpkin Runner-Up, the StormHawks will put together another great team this year. Two years ago as Squirts, this group won the District 6 Championship and finished third in the '13 Squirtacular.

Edina - With only two returners from their State Championship team, the Hornets may not be the number 1 rated team in Minnesota to start the season, but don't count them out at the middle or end of the season.

Minneapolis - As Squirts two years ago, the Storm took the state by "Storm." Sweeping their way to the finals of the Fargo Squirt International and putting Minneapolis Hockey back on the map.

Osseo Maple Grove - Winners of the '13 Squirtacular two years ago, this group of kids has won a lot of games together over the past few years. A good blend of size, speed and talent makes them a tough team to beat.

Rosemount - Undefeated in every sanctioned game they played as second year Squirts, this is a special group of players south of the river. A solid defensive corps and a few snipers up front should make this a fun team to watch this year.

Second Team "A" Field of 8

We will also be hosting an 8 team Second "A" team Tournament as part of the Big Pumpkin this year. If your association has an "A" team that is your second A team (e.g. Moorhead A or Edina A), please send an email to editor@youthhockeyhub.com to put your association on our list. We expect this concept to be popular with the larger associations looking for a competitive outlet for their "A" teams to play.
