2000 Blades Stick it to Alberta

00: Two Goals by Gavin Hain and Big Saves by Ben Beattie key to Win

Ben Beattie making a save for the Blades earlier this Spring...

An exciting first day of hockey in Winnipeg with several Minnesota teams jumping into the action. The best story of day 1 was the 2000 MN Blades victory over the Alberta Alliance 3-2. Grand Rapids Power Forward Gavin Hain added two goals, K'Andre Miller added the Game Winner. But the most outstanding player was Apple Valley (Eastview) Goalie Ben Beattie who made 34 saves...none bigger than a breakaway save late in the third to preserve the 3-2 lead.

In other action, the 2000 Machine took a 3-1 lead with 5 minutes to go in the game when Jett Jungels scored on a Penalty Shot. In a tight defensive battle, that goal looked to seal it for the Orange. Luka Burzan scored twice late in the game including the game tying goal with 33 seconds left. Final score was 3-3. Burzan had 2G/1A and Jackson Leppard added 1G/1A for the Selects. Devlin McCabe and Payton Matsui each scored for the Orange.

01: Minnesota teams win two, lose one

The Blades exploded for three third period goals to be the Calgary Warriors 5-2. St. Cloud's Nate Warner had two goals for the Blades...Roseville's Ryan O'Neill had the game winner early in the third.

The American Stars got off to a good start against Pro Hockey. Grand Forks superstar Judd Caufield had a Hatty for the Stars as their top group of Caufield, Nik Norman (Roseville) and Trevor Kukkonen (Maple Grove) accounted for their first four goals. Carver Martin (Roseville) and Aaron Huglen (Roseau) also got on the scoresheet for the Stars.

The Machine Orange lost to Tourney favorite Notre Dame Jr. Hounds 6-4. The Hounds spotted the Orange a four goal lead, but eventually got on track and pulled away late to win by two. Graeme Clarke had 2G/1A for the Hounds. Bobby Brink (Chaska) and Tyler Rollwagon (Bloomington Jefferson) each had 1G/1A.

02: Both MN Teams Cruise

The MN Blades beat the Edmonton Jr. Oilers 6-3 pulling away with three third period goals. Andover's Luke Kron had a Hatty and Jonny Meiers added two goals and an assist. The Blades will take on South Sask Selects and the Manitoba Mustangs on Friday.

The '02 Machine beat the North American Stars 6-2, Blaine's Jack Reimann had 2G/1A and Tristan Broz added a pair of goals for the Orange. Next up for the Machine is the very tough 2K2 Warriors and the Stealth whom 2K2 beat 13-1. Both games are set for Friday.

03: Machine Falls to Manitoba

The '03 Machine fell to the Manitoba Xtreme 11-5 in an extremely high scoring affair. Aidan Litke, Brandt Clark, and Rory Neill all had two goals for Manitoba. Edina's Jackson Borst had a pair of goals for the Orange.

04: Blades and Team Alberta skate to a tie

After going up 5-0 in the first period, Team Minnesota could not put away the scrappy Brick team from Alberta. Liam Watkins scored with 44 seconds left to tie the score at 6-6. Gavin Brindley had a Hatty for Team MN. TM will take on Selects Hockey BC and our tourney favorite the Chicago Bulldogs on Friday.
