Centennial Falls, Minnetonka Cruises

There were five Bantam 3v3 games held Friday at the Velocity Hockey Center in Eden Prairie. The Velocity 3v3 has attracted a nice crop of association based teams of '99 and '00 birth year players. Here is a brief recap of Friday's action. YHH picked Minnetonka and Centennial to win their pools. The Skippers took care of business, but the Cougars ran into D10 nemesis Elk River (a game we spot lighted earlier in the week as important in that pool). Tonka still has to contend with Edina on Sunday and the Cougars can still likely qualify for the Championship if they run the table in their final four games.

Game 1: Eden Prairie > Chask Chan (14-11)...Ryan Lesko had 5G and 2A for EP and teammate Jake Olson added 3G and 2A for the Eagles. Chaska Chan's Ryan Newell had 4G and 1A for the StormHawks.

Game 2: Edina > Jefferson...Edina scored within the first fifteen seconds of the game and never looked back as they took out D6 rival Jefferson 17-13. Wiz Wyatt Player of the Year Ben Brinkman had 5 Goals for the Hornets and Lewis Crosby added 3G and 2A for the winners. Hunter Jacobs had 5G and 1A for the Jags.

Game 3: Elk River > Centennial (17-16)...The Elks outfought D10 rival Centennial, coming from behind and beating the Cougars late 17-16. Elk River statistics were not available for the Centennial game, but by YHH count Jack Perbix had 5 Goals and added 3 assists, earning the Lotzza Motzza Player of the game. Perbix, a first year Bantam this season, was arguably the best player on the ice for either team.

Game 4: Minnetonka > STMA (22-13)...Tourney favorite Minnetonka did not disappoint on Friday. Jumping out early on the Knights scoring in every way possible. First year Bantam Jack Bayless had six points (2G/4A) for the Skippers. Defenseman Garrett Sandberg had 3 goals and 2 assists for the Knights.

Game 5: Maple Grove > Elk River (17-14)...the Crimson outlasted the Elks who had played two hours previous 17-14. In a battle of two teams that knew each other well, the Crimson got the upper hand. Tyler Borsch had an amazing seven point performance (6G/1A) and Trevor Janicke pumped in six points of his own (4G/2A) for the Leafs. Taiyo Larson had 3G and 2A for the Elks.

Centennial's Soren Frakie goes top shelf for the Cougars.

Players of the Day

Jack Perbix takes home a pizza from Lotzza Motzza on Friday night.

Tyler Borsch ('00, Maple Grove)...versatile player who can play both ways. Quarterback type defenseman who moves and shoots the puck at a high level.

Ben Brinkman ('00, Edina)...had 5 goals, which is a lot for a stay at home defenseman...big shot, great athlete for a player of his size.

Hunter Jacobs ('99, Jefferson)...a newcomer to the Jags this year, is a strong kid with great reach and a lot of athleticism.

Ryan Lesko ('00, Eden Prairie)...solid hands, old-school hard worker who always seems to find the score sheet.

Jack Perbix ('00, Elk River)...sees the ice well, very shifty for a player of his length. Unselfish player that is always around the puck. Only negative were the green socks he trotted out Friday.
