Drew Buchmayer's 2 Goals lead Mahtomedi into Burnsville SQA Semis

This Lakeville North puck was potentially the 1G the Panthers needed to advance to Sunday. They lost on a tiebreaker by 1G.

An exciting day of hockey all over the metro area Saturday at all levels of play and even more excitement on tap on Sunday. The following are match ups and a few words about the big games on tap on Sunday. Note: we can only comment on games with full standings and brackets posted on their websites.

Cake Eater

U12A: Minnetonka vs. Stillwater and Edina vs. Andover

Commentary: no major surprises in this field, the top teams took care of business the past two days. Andover still the favorite, but look for the other three to pull out all the stops.

U10A: Alexandria vs. Stillwater and Andover vs. Minnetonka

Commentary: Four great teams, any of which could win on Sunday. Standing firm with our Andover choice for the winner.

Squirt A

Rosemount's Zach Sweitzer's 2G weren't enough for Rosemount to overtake tourney favorite Prior Lake Saturday.

Burnsville

Mahtomedi vs. Edina (White) and Prior Lake vs. OMG

Commentary: Still holding strong with my Prior Lake pick. Although all of the games at Burnsville in this final four will be tossups. OMG beat Edina in the morning, but Edina squeaked into the Wild Card spot with seven goals against Farmington Saturday night.

Hopkins

Park Cottage Grove vs. Lakeville South

Commentary: All District 8 Championship Game Sunday. Watch out for Austin Stoneking for the Cougars and Nick Pierre for the Wolfpack. Slight edge to LVS in this one (their 6-2 win over Woodbury was impressive).

Mounds View

Edina Green vs. Chaska Chan

Commentary: These two team hold serve and gain the finals. Slight edge to Chaska Chan in this all D6 matchup in Blaine.

Burnsville

Mahtomedi vs. Eastview and Lakeville South vs. Burnsville

Commentary: The Zephyrs have a strong team and will take the Scott Benedict title on Sunday.

Eden Prairie

Rosemount vs. Edina and Wayzata vs. Chaska Chan

Commentary: Rosemount will test Edina in a rematch of Big Pumpkin semifinal Sunday. CC and Wayzata are both surprises this weekend, but neither is short on talent.

Hopkins

PWA: Edina vs. Johnson Como NSP

Commentary: Hornets will win, but will be challenged by JCNSP...poor Orono.

============================================================

Burnsville

Lakeville North AA vs. Mahtomedi and Sartell vs. Burnsville

Commentary: Our pick Minneapolis was ousted earlier in the tourney. We are leaning toward Lakeville North, a team that has outperformed expectations so far this year.

Eden Prairie

Eden Prairie vs. Prior Lake and Centennial vs. Wayzata

Commentary: our original choice was Edina - they registered only 1 tie in three games. Centennial advances as the team to beat, but don't count out Wayzata and Prior Lake, two teams that are playing really well the last two weeks.

Hopkins

Orono vs. MAML

Commentary: two of the stronger "A" teams in Minnesota clash Sunday for hardware. Orono has been strong this week and will hold off the Moose.
