The Magicians Lukas Laub tips one just wide on Saturday. The native of Rosenhiem, Germany made some dazzling plays on Saturday.
The Legend of Adam Carlson continues to grow every day. As documented on YHH a year ago, Adam did not play high school hockey in Edina and still went on to play in the Minnesota Junior Hockey League. After one season in that league, the '94 Goaltender went on to play two seasons in the NAHL, last year and this year. This year he has logged over 20 games, one thousand minutes and won 11 games in 20 starts. On Saturday he helped Coulee Region to a two game sweep of the hometown Magicians with an impressive 37 save shutout for the Chill. His amazing rise to a potential Division I scholarship has been amazing to watch unfold. One Coach told YHH this week that they love how he competes every night, a trait often overlooked when scouting goalies.
The Magicians got on the board first when Kane Durment skated between two Chill defenders and made a sick move past Carlson to make it 1-0 in favor of the Magicians with 14 minutes to go in the first period. With a face off to the left of St. Peter's Chris Amsden, the puck squirted toward the slot and Isaac Thiesen was able to slide it past Amsden to tie it at 1-1.
The game would ebb and flow for all of the second and third period with each team have decent scoring chances but neither could solve the opposing net minder. Both were very solid Saturday night in Richfield.
In the third period, with both teams pressing for the game winning goal, Thiesen got loose on a 2 on 1 and sauced a pretty pass to Chanhassen's Garett Riebling. The Holy Family Grad got enough of his stick on it to to re-direct it off the post and past Amdsen for the Game Winning Goal. The Magic would challenge the Chill for the better half of the third period, but Carlson stood tall (6 foot 3 to be exact) in the victory.
