Tourney News from all over MN, 2 Number 1's Fall

Cloquet and Stillwater battled Saturday in the Spirit of Duluth.

A lot of action throughout Minnesota the next two weekends heading into the Christmas holiday. Teams are either playing in tournaments or have scheduled league games or non-league games. YHH is covering the Spirit of Duluth PeeWee/Bantam, the Detroit Lakes and Brainerd Bantam B, and some impressive other non-tournament action, too.

Bantams

Brainerd's Jared Erickson scores for the Warriors Friday. They play Sartell Sunday at Essentia Health Civic Arena for the Championship.

Spirit of Duluth: Number one rated Grand Rapids fell to Minnetonka in Pool Play Saturday 3-1. The Skippers advance to the Final Four Sunday against Edina in one Semifinal. In the other Semifinal, Eden Prairie will take on Centennial who is coming off a win in the EP Tourney last weekend.

Re-Predict: Since my tourney favorite, Grand Rapids is out. YHH is going with Edina to beat both Tonka and Centennial on Sunday.

Detroit Lakes (BB): a strong field dominated by metro teams. Woodbury, Anoka, and Jefferson all cruised to the Final Four. Woodbury looks really strong and will outlast Jefferson in the Finals Sunday.

Brainerd (BB): Brainerd is off to a great start  this year winning eight straight without a loss. They beat a very good Lakeville North team Friday. They take on Sartell, who has eight wins of their own. The Warriors will win their home tourney.

Other News: Number 1 rated Prior Lake fell to Wayzata Saturday in a non-league game, 6-2. Two #1 teams lose in one day. Moorhead AA beats Elk River 6-3, they are undefeated at 9-0-0.

Lake of the Woods Goalie Lemual Carradice with a big save in Detroit Lakes.

PeeWees

Spirit of Duluth: Edina, Wayzata, Eden Prairie, and Thunder Bay all advanced to the Final Four Sunday. As we predicted, the team to beat is Edina. The Hornets look to cruise Sunday to their third straight Spirit Title. Watch out for Eden Prairie, they have played some good hockey lately.

Notes: Edina White has cruised into the Final Four of the EP Tourney, they will likely win for the second time in two weekends.

Girls

12A: Brainerd came into the the Cities for two games this weekend. First they took on Minnetonka on Saturday and lost to the Skippers 7-3 in a game of two top 5 teams. The Warriors will try their luck (or in their case skill) against Edina on Sunday at Blake.

Notes: Northeast Metro Stars beat Forest Lake on Friday 2-1. That is a great win for the Stars. Minnetonka continues to impress with several big wins the last 7 days.
