The only two Bantam AA teams in district 15 met Saturday at Essentia Health Sports Center in Brainerd.  It was the second meeting of the year for these teams with Brainerd looking to avenge a 6-0 loss earlier this season.  Moorhead on the other hand was looking to avoid its first loss of the season and push its record to 13-0 before heading north for their match up Sunday with Bemidji.  In order to pull off the upset, Brainerd would need to take advantage of scoring opportunities and shut down Moorhead's high scoring offense while playing with a short bench.

Brainerd was able to keep the Spuds in check early working hard in the defensive zone and creating some scoring chances of its own.  Moorhead used a dominant forecheck to gradually take control of play and took full advantage when given a power play opportunity.  Moorhead's Carter Randklev led the Spuds on a three on two rush into the Brainerd zone split the two defenders and put the puck in the back of the net putting Moorhead on top 1-0.  After taking the lead, Moorhead continued to apply pressure, however Brainerd continued to battle and created several scoring chances of its own.  Moorhead's intense forecheck ended up producing results with Isaac Howe picking up a loose puck and scoring an unassisted goal with his wrist shot from the top of the circle.  Brainerd was able to keep Moorhead out of the net for the remainder of the period and the teams went to the locker rooms with Moorhead up 2-0.

Moorhead's high flying offense wasted little time getting going in the second.  Moorhead's Clay Riveland ended up with a rebound behind the Brainerd net and wasted little time putting the puck in the net with a pretty wrap around goal in the first minute of the second.  Brainerd did not lay down and continued to put up a fight.  Back to back Moorhead penalties allowed Brainerd to slow Moorhead down and get its own offense going.  Finally the Warriors efforts were rewarded when Jack Evans buried a Mason Kruse pass cutting into the Spud lead and giving the Brainerd  fans a reason to cheer.  The momentum did not last long for the Warriors.  After several back and forth shifts, the Spuds went on the attack and Jack Stetz got a rebound goal assisted by Landon Overbo and Carter Randklev that put Moorhead on top 4-1 and the score would remain 4-1 after the second.

Moorhead continued to use its speed and forecheck to remain in control during the third.  Brainerd did create several scoring chances but the Spuds were just too much for the Warriors down the stretch.  Moorhead's Kyler Kleven provided the only goal of the period on a pretty passing play from Justin Keller and Ryan Stafford. Both teams battled hard to the finish but the end Moorhead extended its unbeaten streak to 13 games with a dominant 5-1 win over the Warriors.
