Jefferson, OMG and Chaska Chan win titles Tuesday in Bloomington

Bloomington hosted four tournaments this week as part of their PeeWee Showdown. On Tuesday, YHH live streamed the Championship games of the PWB, PWA, and PWAA. Here are three recaps of what we saw both from the booth and from the eye of our crack photo staff.

Bryce Hansen scores GTG with 2:18 left in the game for CC.

Chaska Chan steals one from St. Louis Park in PWB

Lucas Lembke's wrist shot finds the nylon on Tuesday.

The PeeWee B Division in the whole state is separated into 3 categories. Edina Green and White in the first category, 25-30 teams that can beat anyone on any night and then the rest. The PeeWee Showdown had several teams in the second category this past week. The final four was made up of Bloomington Jefferson, St. Louis Park, Eastview and Chaska Chan. Chaska and Jefferson have split their two District meetings so far this year which was a good indication of how tight these final 3 games could be. And tight they were. Despite beating Eastview 5-1 on Tuesday, Chaska Chan really had a hard time with the Lightning. The score did not reveal how close it really was. St. Louis Park beat Jefferson, but only by a very narrow 4-3 game in the semis. That game could have gone either way.

This set the stage for an exciting Championship game. St. Louis Park took a 3-1 lead early in the second period on goals by Alex Riley and Nick Paradise. But Chaska would fight back and get two goals by CC big man Aiden Hamre. One was on the same shift he was stuffed on a breakaway. Early in the third Jamie Sorenson knocked in a rebound to give the Orioles a 4-3 lead. A lead that would hold until there was just over two minutes left in the game when Bryce Hansen would win a draw for CC and flush it top shelf to tie the score at 4-4. In the OT, Hansen would be the hero again. This time he rifled a perfect pass onto the tape of Lucas Lembke's stick and Lembke put the puck where mama hides the cookies - top shelf for the GWG. Bryce Hansen was chosen the YHH Lotzza Motzza Player of the Game.

OMG Takes Down Rival Wayzata for PWA Title

OMG scores early in the first Tuesday en route to PW Showdown Title

Over the past few years, there has been a slight shift in power in District 3. Prior to these last few years, Wayzata has been the king (and queen) of the District, winning almost at will some years at all levels. Enter Osseo Maple Grove. The last 3 seasons, the Crimson (or if you look at their uniforms, the Black and Gold???) have began to chip away at the Wayzata kingdom. OMG has developed a nice base of talent at the Mite and Squirt level. Their Squirt A team last lost a game in February of 2013 and their Squirt B teams the last two seasons have been remarkable.

On Tuesday, OMG showed their depth when their "A" team clashed with Wayzata. After spotting the Trojans a 1-0  lead on a pretty goal by Nathan Weekley, OMG simply took over. They got six goals from three players: Cody Fischbach, Cam Benson, and Chris Kernan. They weren't the only show stoppers for the Crimson. Sam Jacobs, Jacob Hicks, and Cade Wessman all played and performed well on Tuesday as they cruised past Wayzata 6-1. While up 3-1, OMG could not find a way to get the fourth goal and Wayzata began to attack and pressure the Crimson. That is when standout Goalie Cooper Olson made few big stops to keep the score 3-1. Olson will be a difference maker for OMG as they take on top PWA teams down the stretch. Fischbach was named the Lotzza Motzza Player of the Game.

Players to Watch

Cameron Benson - this kid is a show stopper...has no business playing "A" hockey. He is big, skilled, and is hard to match up against anywhere on the ice.

Chris Kernan - hard working player that plays the game with passion and toughness...coaches dream player.

Charlie Podiak - had great hockey sense, was in the middle of the action, no matter where the action was for Wayzata.

Jefferson out skates Tonka, wins 5-2 to win PWAA title

Captain Mitchell Farnham scores for the Jags Tuesday in their 5-2 win.

Bloomington Jefferson had not won a home tournament in so long that even the most ardent Jefferson fans couldn't remember. Three years ago state champion Prior Lake beat the Jags in a shootout and two years ago they lost to MAML by a nose. On Tuesday, no one would soon forget what this Jaguar team would do.

Early in the game, Brett Herbert got the Jags on the board with a rebound goal. At that point the game would settle in to a nice free flowing game where both teams would get their chances. The second period was an impressive period for the number one seeded host Jaguars. They would rip off four spectacular goals in a seven minute span. The most memorable being a tic tac toe pass from Carson Jacobs to Brett Herbert who found a streaking Mitchell Farnham on the back door who flushed it home to give the Jags a 3-0 lead. Up 4--0, star forward Grayson Hight used his incredible speed to beat Tonka Defenseman Hunter Newhouse to a loose puck and a pretty breakaway goal to make it 5-0.

Tonka would salvage a small comeback in the third period and make a game out of it late. They simply ran out of time and goals as the Jags claimed the PeeWee Showdown title by going a perfect 5-0 on the weekend.

Mitchell Farnham was named the Lotzza Motzza Player of the Game for his great effort.

Players to Watch

Grayson Hight - remarkable speed and great toughness...did a great job of staying with Tonka's Griffin Streeter all night.

Griffin Streeter - had a great tournament including a GWG in OT on Tuesday.

Brett Herbert - had a goal and an assist for the Jags, both were great plays by the first year forward.
