#1 Orono Bantam A beats SLP Saturday, plus many great pics and notes

Kyle Heffron nets one of his three goals Saturday against Hermantown

YHH cruised the metro and kept tabs on events all over Minnesota on Saturday. It was a Super Saturday from PeeWee B to Bantam AA and everything in between, YHH saw some great hockey. Teams playing for some great hardware and tournament bragging rights,

Rosemount cruises past Hermantown 11-2

Kyle Heffron and Mitchell Kohner each notched Hatties Saturday as the Irish cruised past the visiting Hermantown Hawks. Hermantown in town for a four game Southern tour with two games against the Irish on Saturday and single games with Forest Lake (Friday, 2-2 tie) and Sibley (Sunday am)..

Hayden Masloski scores for Andover Saturday

Eden Prairie PeeWee A

In one of the most lopsided pool entries in recent memory, T10 regulars Tartan and Mound Westonka were bounced from Bracket Play Saturday. Edina and Eagan advanced to the Final Four with a combined 5-1 record and outscoring their opponents 25-10 in 6 games. They will likely face each other again in the final. Look for Andover to test the Eagan AA team on Sunday morning and the Hornet to cruise past the Elks in a rematch of a game played at the Big Pumpkin in October where Edina won big.

Park Cottage Grove came a goal away Saturday from the #1 seed.

Eden Prairie Bantam A

An exciting day in Pool Play in EP. Mound Westonka swept the Black Pool. In a game we saw, the White Hawks nipped Park Cottage Grove 3-2. The Wolfpack cut the lead to 3-2 in the final minute and a couple nice chances including a GTG attempt at the buzzer that MW Goalie Jacob Silverstein stopped.

Edina swept the Red Pool and will take on PCG. Wayzata lost to Edina 5-1 and will take on District foe Mound Westonka for a big to go the 'Ship on Sunday.

OMG Black made New Richmond see Red on Saturday winning 6-1 to gain Final 4.

OMG PeeWee B Winter Face Off

Four teams advanced to the Final Four Saturday in the 32 team Winter Face Off in Osseo and Maple Grove. Host OMG beat New Richmond Saturday 6-1 and their District 3 rival Orono did in Mounds View Irondale 8-5 in the Maple Grove Premier rink to advance.

Number 2 Edina Green cruised past the KC Sabres of Thunder Bay 7-1 and Wayzata downed Apple Valley 4-1 to gain the F4 Sunday morning in Maple Grove.

Orono may be the most dominant team in Minnesota at their level...

Number 1 Orono holds off St. Louis Park 4-3 in District 3 play

The Number 1 Ranked Orono Spartans took out their seventh AA opponent Saturday and won for the 32nd time in 36 starts. The Spartans are lead by top line Jack Suchy, Thomas Walker and Davey Burns. But on Saturday they got two goals from Blake Weyerhaeuser and some great support from all three lines to hold off a great St. Louis Park team. Park got a late goal from Jonny Sorenson, his second of the day, to cut the lead to 4-3, but could not muster another SOG. As the Spartans simply ran out the clock off to a nice District 3 victory.

Bantam AA: Grand Rapids and Sibley set to meet Sunday in Rapids Final

In one of the craziest finishes to a tournament that saw more upsets than an Anger Management Class, the Star of the North Bantams would be better called the Fallen Star of the North.

First on Friday, Roseau beat T10 STMA in an OT Shootout. Then on Saturday, St. Cloud beat T5 Grand Rapids 3-1 to enter the fray as a possible Wild Card. Prior to the big Minneapolis vs. Jefferson game that would likely determine the final spot, Duluth East beat undefeated pool play team Sibley to throw even more wrenches in the Tie Breaker system. Eventually, Jefferson would stay the course (which wasn't exactly the course all day) and beat the Storm 7-2 to gain the Final Four. Grand Rapids and Sibley would win Saturday night to advance to the Sunday Final - two teams that lost Saturday, but found a way to win when it mattered.
