Champlin's Carter Wostrel dives to stop an Edina rush.

Edina's Bryce Hess with a big save for the Hornets Sunday.

Champlin Park got off to a fast start scoring two first period goals by Evan Williams and Hogan Sinjem. The Rebels worked their plan of keeping the Hornets to the perimeter and scoring when given the opportunity. After the first period, the Rebels lead 2-0.

The Rebels had their chances to add to the two goal lead but were denied once on a breakaway and then again on a point blank shot by Williams. In the middle of the second on a delayed penalty on CP, Andrew Hulbert fired a high wrist shot that found its way past the CP Goalie Carter Wostrel to cut the Rebel lead to 2-1.

The end of the second period featured three goals in less than two minutes watching the lead see saw back and forth. Brennan Wurst scored on the nicest offensive play we saw all weekend. Mitchell Dokman with a man all over him was able to slide a pass past Wostrel onto the stick of Wurst who one timed in to tie the score 2-2. With an Edina player off for Tripping, Champlin set up the power play...and Evan Williams got his second of the day on a rebound off of a Tyler Trombley shot to give the Rebels a 3-2 lead. On the next shift, Edina Centerman Nick Mikan got loose, took the puck from Maui to Maine and beat Wostrel with a wrist shot to tie the score at 4-4 heading into the third period.

The third period was exciting Squirt hockey at its best. Both teams had their chances, but both defensive corps and goalies came up big. Finally, late in the game Evan Williams got his third goal of the game on a greasy goal in front of the net when Hess couldn't get his hands on it. With a 4-3 lead with three minutes to go, Champlin was in the driver's seat to the finals.

Edina had one last rush to tie the score. Bill Martin would duplicate Williams' effort with a dirty goal of his own. After three attempts in front, Martin knocked home a rebound with two minutes to go to tie. Twenty seconds later, with Edina pressing for the win, Champlin got called for trip. The Hornets would skate the rest of regulation up one man. After a few good chances for the W, the game ended in a tie.

In Overtime, Edina really took the play to Champlin. You could feel the Champlin faithful holding on for dear life to get their team to a shootout or a possible loose puck breakaway. With under a minute to go, Mitchell Dokman got a puck on the hashmark and darted toward the net on his forehand. He pumped in a wrist shot past Wostrel top shelf to give the Hornets the OT win.
