The District 12 PeeWee B Tournament got underway Friday in Hibbing at the Hibbing Fairgrounds. There were eight teams playing four games Friday at the tiny Fairgrounds ice arena. The double elimination format was set up where the 1 vs. 8 seed and 2 vs. 7 seed would play first round games with losing teams headed to the Loser's Bracket for elimination games. The top three teams from the tournament will earn bids to the North Regional held in Ely, February 27 to March 1st.

Top seeded Ely knocked off Greenway 14-0 in the first game and International Falls made their long drive worth it beating Virginia 5-1. Trevor Belanger had a pair of goals and an assist for the Broncos.

Second seed Mesabi East beat Hibbing 8-0 behind Goalie Noah Shuck's 16 save shutout. Hunter Levander and Charlie Karish each had Hatties for the Giants as they advanced to play Eveleth Gilbert. Shuck earned a Lotzza Motzza POTG award for his strong play.

Another shutout  was recorded Friday at the Fairgrounds when Eveleth Gilbert Goalie Rachel Woods blanked Grand Rapids for the 4-0 win. Woods earned the Shock Doctor Player of the Game award for her efforts for the Bears.

On Saturday, our coverage will also turn to the five team PeeWee A tournament in Virginia. We will take in games at both the Fairgrounds in Hibbing and the Miners up Highway 169 in Virginia.

Eveleth Gilbert Trevor Graves shot hits the back of the net Friday.
