District playoffs are the time of year kids anticipate from the moment their teams are formed. This year's District 12 playoffs did not dissapoint. sending the top three teams to the Northern Regional Tournament in Alexandria, MN Feb 27- Feb 3.

The day started with a heated battle between the Virginia Blue Devils and the International Falls Broncos. The winner advances to Regions as the #3 seed and the loser goes home and looks to next year. Both teams came ready to play. When the Devils would score, the Broncos would answer back. The Devils gained momentum late in the 2nd and never let up winning 5-3. Devils Ryan Scherf netted a pair of goals and two assists while goalie Londin McCarty-Jalonen protected his territory with 42 saves and likely the biggest W in his career sending the Devils to Regions on his home ice.

The final game of the day between the Greenway Raiders and the Eveleth/Gilbert Bears determined who would carry the title of District Champs and who would take 2nd place.The Raiders held the lead 2-1 after the 1st, then scoring two unanswered goals in the 2nd to take a commanding 4-1 lead. Greenway scored back to back goals in the third to give Eveleth a huge hill to climb. The Bears made a strong comeback late in the 3rd scoring two goals. However, Greenway netted one last goal in the 3rd helping secure the win. Greenway topped EV/G 7-3. Both teams will advance to the Regional Tournament. Greenway with the #1 seed EV/G as the #2 seed.

PeeWee B - Ely Heads Home for Regions


Mesabi East's with his Shock Doctor POTG Award

The PWB District 12 Tournament has come to an end. With the top three teams advancing to The Northen Regionals to be held Feb 27- March 1 in Ely, MN.

In the third place play-in game the Mesabi East Giants faced off with IFalls for the number three seed to Regions. After an upsetting 4-3 loss to the Bears, the Giants were forced to battle their way back into the running for the number three spot. With a 7-4 win against Virgina, ME gained the final game to face International Falls. Giants forward Cole Meyer tallied 4 goals and an assist and was awarded Shock Doctor POTG for his efforts. Goalie Noah Shuck held steady allowing only 3 goals. The Giants won 6-3 avenging the Saturday loss and will advance to the Regional tournament as the number three seed!

Coming into the District Tournament in Hibbing, the Ely Timberwolves were the top seeded team in District 12. The Eveleth Gilbert  Bears advanced to the District title game to face the Wolves after the 4-3 win over Mesabi East. The Bears managed to find the back of the net on a few occasions. However, it wouldn't be enough to stop the ice train Ely rode in on. Timberwolves forward Joey Pierce, who starred in the YHH PeeWee Challenge last Fall, could not be derailed as he scored 9 of their 11 goals, leading his team to an impressive 11-4 win. The Wolves will host the Regional on their home ice at the Ely Ice Arena against EV/G, Mesabi East and teams from District 15 and 16.
