PeeWee B - Ely Heads Home for Regions
Mesabi East's with his Shock Doctor POTG Award
The PWB District 12 Tournament has come to an end. With the top three teams advancing to The Northen Regionals to be held Feb 27- March 1 in Ely, MN.
In the third place play-in game the Mesabi East Giants faced off with IFalls for the number three seed to Regions. After an upsetting 4-3 loss to the Bears, the Giants were forced to battle their way back into the running for the number three spot. With a 7-4 win against Virgina, ME gained the final game to face International Falls. Giants forward Cole Meyer tallied 4 goals and an assist and was awarded Shock Doctor POTG for his efforts. Goalie Noah Shuck held steady allowing only 3 goals. The Giants won 6-3 avenging the Saturday loss and will advance to the Regional tournament as the number three seed!
Coming into the District Tournament in Hibbing, the Ely Timberwolves were the top seeded team in District 12. The Eveleth Gilbert Bears advanced to the District title game to face the Wolves after the 4-3 win over Mesabi East. The Bears managed to find the back of the net on a few occasions. However, it wouldn't be enough to stop the ice train Ely rode in on. Timberwolves forward Joey Pierce, who starred in the YHH PeeWee Challenge last Fall, could not be derailed as he scored 9 of their 11 goals, leading his team to an impressive 11-4 win. The Wolves will host the Regional on their home ice at the Ely Ice Arena against EV/G, Mesabi East and teams from District 15 and 16.
