Ethan Frisch scores for Moorhead Friday.
Moorhead took their one loss record into the State Quarterfinals against Osseo Maple Grove. The North Region Champions showed why they are one of the teams to beat this weekend in Duluth beating OMG 5-1 at the Heritage Sports Center.
The Spuds got off to a fast start. A minute into the game, Nolan Westra out raced an OMG defender to the puck and beat Carson Nagel for a quick 1-0 lead. That was the first of two goals for Westra on the day. Late in the period is when the Spuds put OMG away. First, '14 Wiz Wyatt Finalist Ethan Frisch scored a power play goal from the point on a rocket. A minute later, '15 Bantam Player of the Year finalist Carter Randklev went forehand/backhand between the five hole to give the Spuds a 3-0 lead.
Westra and Randklev added two goals early in the second period, 34 seconds apart. Randklev's on a pretty top shelf snap shot to make it 5-0. Tyler Kostelecky added a goal for OMG to spoil the shutout bid for Moorhead's Carter Krier.
