Edina's Bjorn Swanson celebrates his 5 Hole Goal Friday.

Edina knocked off District 6 rival Bloomington Jefferson in the final Quarterfinal game of the Bantam State Tournament in Duluth. The Hornets were powered by four unanswered third period goals to beat the Jags who put up a valiant effort all game long.

Down 3-1 midway through the game, Jefferson seem to be on the bad side of puck luck. Down 2-1 they failed on a short handed 2-0 break and then gave up a screen goal by Lewis Crosby who scored one of his 4 goals. Then while on the power play, they missed a wide open net. Their luck would change in the second half of the second period when Alex Miller beat Josh Solomon to cut the Hornet lead to 3-2. Minutes later, Hunter Jacobs would tally his second of the day with a quick wrist shot to tie the score at 3. Late in the second Edina took two penalties 16 seconds apart to set the Jags up for 5 on 3 Power Play to start the third.

The Hornets would fight off the Jags 5 on 3. But with 11:00 left in the game Hunter Jacobs would score again, his third of the game and the Jags lead 4-3. Not to be outdone, Crosby would earn his hatty on a tip in off of a shot by Jerome Newhouse to tie it at 4-4.  Moments later, Crosby would score again, this time on a loose puck in front that he willed into the net, almost pushing the puck and goalie Evan Redepenning into the net. Ben Brinkman and Demtrious Koumontzis would add late insurance goals for the Hornets to seal the 7-4 victory. The Hornets will take on Moorhead on Saturday in the Semifinals.

Commentary

Lewis Crosby tips in the GTG for Edina Friday.

Hats off to Jefferson for playing a whale of a game against Edina. Their coaching staff did a great job keeping their team in the game for all 45 minutes. After hitting the wall in early February, this team finished really strong to end the season. Admittedly, we did not give Jefferson much of a chance Friday, boy were we wrong (again).

What can't you say about Lewis Crosby. He was the best player on the ice Friday. He had four goals and produced 10 more high quality chances on his own.

What's Next for Edina: Hornets will take on Edina Saturday afternoon. Moorhead will have to keep Crosby accounted for in order to win.

What's Next for Jefferson: Jags take on OMG Saturday to extend their season one more day. Their prize if they win? A match-up with the Grand Rapids/Wayzata winner.
