Joe Molenaar ties the game for Minnetonka on the Power Play
Minnetonka knocked off Top Ranked Centennial 2-1 in the State Semifinals Saturday in Duluth. Charlie Glockner had 21 saves and the Skippers got two power play goals 33 seconds apart to send Tonka to the state Final.
Centennial came out of the gates flying getting 2-3 great chances on the first two shifts. Carter Wagner scored a minute seventeen into the game on the Cougars second shift to give them a 1-0 lead. Wagner busted out of the corner and found a rare opening in Glockner's pads and buried it. The Cougars would continue to pressure Tonka, but were unable to get the next goal. After the first period, Tonka only down 1-0 seemed like a win for the Skippers.
In the second period, Centennial got called for two penalties within a 16 second span. The Skippers took advantage scoring right away to tie on a Joe Molenaar one-timer and then Luke Loheit got the eventual game winner a few ticks later.
In the third, Centennial got some chances but Glockner was able to hold down the fort and lift his team to the State Final. The Skippers will face the winner of Edina and Moorhead on Sunday afternoon in Duluth.
