Thomas Walker's 2 Goals lead Spartans to Title

Orono wins the Bantam A State Title

Spartans Wait for State Title is Over

Almost two years to the day, Thomas Walker and his teammates had to wait for a chance to overcome a devastating State Championship loss. As PeeWees, Walker and several of the Bantam A Spartans lost to Minneapolis in the State PeeWee A title game in Faribault. This year, with the help of a few superstitions, the Spartans finished the season and for most on the team, their careers on top as State Champions. The first state title for Orono hockey.

Edina was no easy match. The two teams met twice during the season, each winning once. In the rubber match, Edina got on the board first when Liam Malmquist pumped home a pretty shot to give the Hornets the lead. Orono's Dane Korsi would answer with a pretty goal whacking the puck in out of the air to beat Edina Goalie Bennett Stanchfield to tie the score at 1 after 1.

The Hornets and Spartans would trade goals in the second, first Max Borst had a snipe for Edina and Walker would get his first on a stuff on the back door. Orono would gain momentum after the Walker goal and began to take over the game, but not score.

In the third, with the score tied, George Grannis found a wide open net after a hard shot and he buried it for the Game Winning Goal. Walker would add an empty net goal and the celebration was on for the Spartans.
