Machine and Vancouver Selects head into Final

Vancouver's Alex Swetlikoff had a big day Saturday notching 2G/2A

The Blades High Performance Invite continued Saturday with five games, two in the morning and three in the afternoon. After Saturday, the Machine Orange and the Vancouver Selects punched their ticket to a rematch in the championship Sunday. Here is a brief recap of Saturday's action.

Game 1: Blades shoot down Ducks 6-3

Wiz Wyatt Player of the Year Finalist Nate Warner had 2 goals including one a minute into the game to lift the Blades to a 6-3 win. After the Ducks tied the game early in the second period, the Blades scored four straight goals to take a 5-1 lead into the second period intermission. Two goals of note by the Blades were a wicked slap shot by Mike Koster on a power play and a sweet face off play that freed Ryan O'Neill on a breakaway and the Roseville star shelfed it past the glove of Ducks Goalie Ethan Lamon. The Ducks would add two late goals (Petrie and Kemp) to make it interesting.

Game 2: Vancouver Selects take the power out of DHI Octane 9-3

The first line for the Vancouver scored two goals on the first shift to set the tone for the Selects as they cruised to a 9-3 win over DHI. Josh Williams, Sasha Mutala and Alex Swetlikoff accounted for 14 points in the game as the Selects showed why they will be a tough foe for the Orange come Sunday morning. DHI hung tough keeping the score 3-1 after the first and they got a a pretty goal by Brett Oberle to cut the lead to 3-2 early in the second period. That is when Ethan Leyh dashed all hope for DHI, he took the faceoff, parted the Red Sea and beat DHI Goalie Brock Gould four seconds after the Oberle goal to give the Selects a 4-2 lead. Mutala would score two more and get the Hatty for Vancouver as they clinched a spot in the Championship Game Sunday.

Game 3: Machine beats Ducks 3-1 in battle for Orange bragging rights

Cullen Vinar scored twenty seconds into the game to give the Machine Orange a lead they would never lose to Anaheim en route to a 3-1 win. After nearly thirty minutes of scoreless hockey that featured some great saves by Ducks and Machine Goalies Anderson Viollette and Dustin Wolfe, the Machine added a goal with 30 seconds left in the second to give them a 2-0 lead. Shattuck bound Jackson Lacombe fed a pretty saucer pass to Tyler Rollwagon who caught it and pumped it in past Violette glove side. The two teams traded goals in the third period (Conner Kemp/Ducks and AJ Kittleson/Orange).

Game 3: Machine beats Ducks 3-1 in battle for Orange bragging rights

Cullen Vinar scored twenty seconds into the game to give the Machine Orange a lead they would never lose to Anaheim en route to a 3-1 win. Game 4: Selects cut down the Blades 5-3 on Anderson's 2 Goals.

The Vancouver Selects showed Saturday that they are more than a one line team. With standouts Josh Williams, Sasha Mutala and Alex Swetlikoff - it is easy to make this assumption. But players like Ethan Leyh, Carter Anderson and Gage Gonclaves each showed some scoring promise this weekend, too. Saturday versus the Blades Anderson had two goals including the game's first with just over a minute left to give Vancouver the 1-0 lead after one. The Selects would add three more goals in the second, Nick Amsler, Anderson and Leyh each inked the score sheet to give the boys from British Columbia a 4-0 lead. With the score 4-1 early in the third Gonclaves would had an insurance goal for the Selects. Blades' standouts Jake Hale and Grant Silianoff would had two late goals to round out the final score 5-3. Both teams will face the Machine Orange on Sunday. The Selects will meet them Sunday morning for the title and the Blades will meet them in the afternoon in an exhibition game.

Game 5: Orange beat DHI on late Rollwagon Goal

DHI came into their game with the Machine Orange winless, but in each game they had their chances to win. Saturday night's game was no different. Like in their previous games, they fell behind early and fought back. After spotting the Machine three goals (Kittleson, Rollwagon, and Karpman), they got on the board when linemates Nick Robertson and Justin Grudem connected for two goals and then DHI leading scorer Teddy Lagerbeck tied the game with five minutes to go. With just over two minutes left, Tyler Rollwagon capitalized on a DHI miscue and scored the game winning goal to lift the Machine into the Championship Sunday.
