K'Andre Miller pours in a goal Sunday
The Boys HP Camp began Saturday in St. Cloud with 102 boys with their sights firmly on a spot in the US National Camp in July. Twenty will be selected to the National Camp which will be held in New York in July. Twenty to thirty kids at the camp are likely happy to be there and 30-50 are legitimate contenders for the final phase of the HP process which began back in March at the District tryouts. As for the players in between happy to be there and legit, that is where the fun begins.
Historically players come out of nowhere at the St. Cloud camp and punch a ticket to New York. If history repeats itself, don't be shocked if a relatively unknown player finds his name on the final list of twenty.
YHH will be in St. Cloud to cover these players trek to New York.
On Sunday we took in the first three games of the event. White took on Royal Blue, followed by Green and Gold and the nightcap was Light Blue and Red.
Results: Royal Blue beat White 7-2, Gold shut out Green 3-0 and Light Blue knocked off Red 6-3.
The following are players that stood out in the first set of games Sunday.
Royal: Demetrious Koumontzis and K'Andre Miller were standouts the entire game against White.
White: Ryder Donovan and Brendan McFadden showed appealing skills during their play Sunday afternoon.
Green: Gavin Hain and Trevor Janicke leave it all on the ice every time they play...Sunday was no different. Janicke, the first year Bantam from Maple Grove showed uncanny speed and skill Sunday.
Gold: Tommy Winges was one of the best we saw Sunday...great skater, solid hands. Hanson O'Leary is a high riser out of Roseau...makes an impact on every shift.
Red: Ethan Frisch is a great skater and very deceptive with the puck...the Moorhead Defenseman had a goal Sunday night. Jack Perbix was silky smooth Sunday...he had a pretty one time pass in front for a goal.
Light Blue: Blake McLaughlin was his normal outstanding self Sunday night. He showed great skill and a high compete level. Noah Bisset had a pretty pipe in goal for the the Light Blue...he showed a lot of spirit in his hometown.
Goalie: Ryan Ullan and Isaiah DiLaura had a shutout Sunday for Gold...they both had stretches of amazing play. Andy Beran and Keegan Karki both made highlight reel saves for their respective teams at the camp in St. Cloud.
